Publisher's summary

Linda Scarpa had the best toys, the nicest clothes, and a close-knit family. Yet her childhood was far from idyllic. Classmates avoided her; boys wouldn't date her. Eventually she learned why: They were afraid of her father.

A made man in the Colombo crime family, Gregory Scarpa, Sr., was a stone-cold killer nicknamed the "Grim Reaper." Unlike most tight-lipped mobsters, Scarpa talked business - and murder - in front of his kids. But to Linda, he was also a loving, devoted father who played video games with her for hours. In riveting detail, she reveals what it was like to grow up in the violent world of the mob and to come to grips with the truth about her father and the devastation he wrought.

Tragicomedy

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

If one is curious about others.

Would you be willing to try another book from Linda Scarpa and Linda Rosencrance ? Why or why not?

Never say never.

Which character – as performed by Elise Arsenault – was your favorite?

I would have to say the author of the book. Writing a book is an honest undertaking, and this book did take courage to write.

Did The Mafia Hit Man's Daughter inspire you to do anything?

Ensure my kids get through college.

Any additional comments?

Plenty of drama. A lot of hilarious moments that were not even meant to be funny, but there is a lot of comedy. Killing, stealing, part of "normal conditions" in a cult. A cult called criminality. Almost no awareness of consequences. Entire families living in society oblivious of the agreed upon policies and routines within this society. Surviving by setting people outside of the cult, up for losses. In a way, a gypsy tribe. That is what the mafia is, a gypsy tribe. I still have no idea who the father is of the author. The man her mother was married to or the boyfriend Scarpa. The "Way of Life" is actually a cult. The people in it can not it even see it.

Wish they were all like this and more!

Absolutely excellent book. I wish there were more books from mobsters family members as well as mobsters. This Italian sounding female narrator really makes the book here on audible. Unfortunately there are a lot of brilliant audiobooks here on this app but have a horrible narrator reading these tales in which most have to be returned. Linda told this story like a true champ and I don't look at mobsters who turned into "snitches " as snitches. More like calling them victims or defectors since they're not snitching on their friends but mafioso brutal deadly and vicious cult killers ready to dispose of their friends or family anyways.
Going to read Sammy the Bulls daughters book next regardless of personal or paid reviews.

Shocking

Halfway through the book things started taking a very sad turn. Lynn's life started going down a really sad path. Which threw me off, but hey that's life.

The first 4 / 5 chapters were the most captivating. All of them were honestly (maybe because of how well narrated it was) but the sadness really overshadowed the unique stories. which is very selfish to say since her life was ever-changing and the more the years rolled around the harsher the reality of the situation sunk in. Which is why she says she doesn't recommend anyone she knows join the life

Couldn't wait for the ending

My husband & I listened to this together on a road trip. The story was interesting however seemed to drag out towards the end. We both were thinking many times, "get to the point"! Hoping this book was therapeutic for Linda and my husband wonders if she needed $$ in writing it.

Entertaining Story

A great listen, worth the time and money. Interesting Mob story. I found the cuts to flashbacks and others accounts of what was happening a bit confusing but only if I wasn't giving it 100% of my attention.

Get the written copy....trust me!

What did you like best about The Mafia Hit Man's Daughter? What did you like least?

I enjoyed hearing the story....the narrating was the worst though

What did you like best about this story?

the history basically

How could the performance have been better?

ANY other narrator....I'm sorry it was someone trying to put on a Brooklyn accent and it was the furthest thing from a Brooklyn accent...quite painful to listen to actually
