Publisher's summary

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx's definitive and best-selling memoir on drug addiction is now available on audio for the first time, read by Nikki Sixx! This shocking, gripping, and at times darkly hilarious memoir explores Nikki's yearlong war with a vicious heroin addiction. Now more than ever, with opioid addiction ravaging our country and rising by 20 percent in the past year alone, Nikki's story of both his descent into drug-addled decay and subsequent recovery and transition into a rehabilitation advocate is now more relevant than ever.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days - sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers - in a coke and heroin-fueled daze.

The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares the diary entries - some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre - of those dark times.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and surprisingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom - and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

Sixx Review

I was hanging on every word Nikki had to say. I related to everything that he did. I didn't hit "rock bottom." I never became homeless, due to my mother. I guess you could say she was an enabler. She always said, "get out of this house!!" I would just say, "yeah...yeah...yeah".
The Heroin Diaries is truly a great read, especially if you are a drug addict or even a recovering addict. I wish I knew about this book much much sooner. I've been clean for about 10 yrs now.
My previous boyfriend and father of my wonderful son, Liam, died in 2008 due to self infliction. I was truly sad at first. Billy got me onto heroin. He said it was a crushed up pain pill. I suddenly violently threw up my pasta dinner. Well after a month went by I tried it again, only half. I didn't get sick this time. Well, the months became weeks, the weeks became days, then everyday I had to have it.
It's like a blessing in disguise for me that Billy died. If I was still with him I probably would be dead as well or in jail, which is the same as dead with a mouth like mine.
Anyway, thanks for reading some of my story.

Great to hear Nikki Sixx read his story.

This book will help anyone struggling with any form of drug addiction. The best book I have ever read on the subject. I had told my teens parts of the story. They won't be trying drugs any time soon.

What an awesome journey!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a true portrait of rock star excesses, as well as how far people who are addicted will drag themselves thorugh the much. As Nikki says... The dying is easy, It's the living that seems impossible when it's time to sober up!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heroin Diaries: 10 Year Anniversary Edition?

Hearing about Nikki coming to my hometown and the things he did there.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

That it was the author.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

What an inspiration. Nikki is one of my all time true hero's. I play bass, and too have kicked "THE" habit. I am forever in his debt. This book has helped me more than I could even explain sitting here writing an e book review!

Eye opening

Any additional comments?

I've always like Motley Crue's music, but due to being born in the late 80's, I wasn't able to experience them when they were at their height. To me, Crue was Vince and Tommy. This book opened my eyes to the real wheel behind Motley Crue, and the demons that haunted (or hunted) him.

The journey Nikki takes in that year is amazing. I couldn't stop listening.

1st edition- a well read, 2nd- a awesome audible!

I really dislike reading but I love Nikki Sixx. My brother brought me the book and said "trust me and read it!" I was in my mid 30's and hadn't read a book since high school. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in less than a week.
Who would have known Nikki was going through this? I didn't and I also didn't think anybody could survive with such a crazy lifestyle.
I was estacted when I heard about the 10th anniversary edition and since we have bitchen apps that can read to us now...even better, Nikki can read to me! I might even listen to it again.

God bless you Nikki Sixx!

An ending that will make a macho man cry!!

I'm so grateful that, in the end, you choose to be a father and die of old age. I'm 21 and have always had a stable home life; near zero of my peers can say the same. I see how I was able to avoid total collapse from OTC drugs addiction because of their stable relationship. I also see my peers collapse because they don't have that supportive stability at home. Point being, I greatly appreciate that you have been a father to your kids and I know that you know that they have something few other kids have and how big of a difference that makes in their lives.

So-So

Decent book and can be very entertaining at parts, but the female narrator's voice was painful to listen to, especially when she pretended to cry. I'd rather listen to nails being run down a chalkboard.

Gripping

Absolutely stunning that Sixx is still alive. This book is not only for crue fans but for anyone who is struggling with addiction. It pulls you into the underworld, the rawness of Heroin diaries is insane. Would recommend to everyone I know.
