Publisher's summary

Do you love American history? Do you enjoy learning about the US presidents? If so, then this president trivia book is for you.

The Great Book of Crazy President Trivia is filled with many lesser-known facts about the American presidents. It is filled with great stories of the US presidents that you will not find in any US history books. This president trivia book is going to let you see the presidents of the past in a whole new light. Learn about their personal lives, the challenges they faced, and their great accomplishments.

When you listen to this trivia book, you are going to learn not only about the presidents of the US but about the history of the US as well. When we learn about the presidents, most often we learn about a few of their accomplishments that they had while in office. However, this book is going to show you the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to the lives of these men.

At the end of each chapter, you will find trivia questions and answers that are going to allow you to learn even more about the men who have been in charge of the United States of America. You are going to learn how war not only challenged these men but how it affected who they were. You will see how great decisions were made as well as some that were not so great.

In the end, you are going to find that these men were in fact just men who took on a huge responsibility. Some of them were successful, some of them failed miserably, but each of them, with their own hands, molded the US into what it is today.

I Absolutely Love These Books by Bill O'Neill

🖒 I absolutely love these books by Bill O'Neill. They are written for older elementary school students, but I think they are appropriate for any age. If you are a history or political junkie, like yours truly, you will love it as much as I did.

🖒 This book highlights each of our 45 presidents, giving a brief history (not found in history books) and a few quirky facts that may make you see that president in a different light.

🖒 This is an instructive book with opportunities at the end of each chapter for the listener to test himself on the material he just heard. A great way to reinforce learning.

🖒🖒 Rob Maxwell is engaging and makes the book entertaining. I really enjoyed his performance.

Fun, light history snack

This is a great book to read between longer works. If you enjoy history and trivia, it should be right up your alley. I have heard some of the content before, but there are 45 presidents at this point and I can never have it reinforced too much.
Rob Maxwell does a good job and works with the content to deliver an nice breezy read.

Don’t Judge This Book By Its Cover

Author Bill O’Neill sold himself short when he titled his book “The Great Book of Crazy Presidential Trivia”. That title sets a tone of frivolity when, in fact, this book has some substance and meat on its bones. O’Neill’s work is a terrific introduction to all our Presidents and gives the listener some great insights for each and every one. But beyond that it delves into detail on some important Presidential moments like John Adams’ involvement in the Boston Massacre trial and the causes behind the first-ever impeachment of a President in the case of Andrew Johnson.
If you don’t know the difference between Tyler and Taylor, Harrison and Harrison or Roosevelt and Roosevelt this book is a useful tool that will not only provide basic but interesting information on all our Chief Executives but also pique your curiosity on some in particular which may lay the foundation for further reading on individual presidents of interest. Covering forty-five administrations in under three hours does mean there is more breadth than depth but, again, it may lead to further individual in-depth exploration.
The only negative I found was Rob Maxwell’s narration. I found his tone too light-hearted. I think he should have been more serious about his narration which, in my opinion, would have lent a greater air of credibility to the book.
Bill O’Neill needs to give himself more credit: this book is far from crazy!

Quirky not so Crazy

This was a fun quick listen on trivia of American Presidents. There were some great facts thrown in that I did not know from my previous study. Many of the facts given were more of a quirky nature and less crazy reveal. All in all a fun listen.

Some aren't so crazy but still interesting

Despite being titled "crazy president trivia" much of the trivia here, while interesting, ins't really crazy. This book is good for getting a quick overview of who the Presidents are, what they did and what they are known for.

The book runs through each of the presidents, telling a brief history of their Presidency (although for some, like Lincoln, it focuses as much on his pre-Presidential life). Some it is a straight forward history. 'They we're elected here, they did this'. Some have some interesting stuff - like Cleveland marrying his ward who was 27 years younger than him.

There are some things that are strange, possibly unintentionally so. The author states that Reagan was an amazing President, telling of some of the things he did. Then a few lines later, in some of the small trivia parts he talks about how Reagan like Trump is. Does that mean he thinks Trump is amazing? I don't know. I would hazard a guess the author is more Republican than Democrat, based on how he talks about the last few Presidents. Then again, it is hard to talk about the legacy of presidents who are very recent, as the legacy isn't fully known. I don't think it changes the book too much - it seems fairly even handed more the most part.

Rob Maxwell does well with narration. Clear, well paced and enjoyable to listen to.

Great facts and tales. Great Narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audio book to anyone who is into history or interested in learning about the Presidents. The facts were interesting and the anecdotes were funny. Also gives short bios of each president.

What did you like best about this story?

while it was not a story in the strictest sense, it had many different short stories. The one about President Johnson and his...Johnson was very funny and a great piece of interesting presidential trivia.

What does Rob Maxwell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a great job in the relaying of the facts. He used comic timing to tell the funnier facts and a solemn affectation when conveying some of the more tragic facts. This could have been a one man show if it were live with costume changes.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

What!!! No They Didn't!!!

Any additional comments?

Fun and Entertaining Tidbits

This is a summary of important and trivial details about all of the presidents, although some were only given cursory coverage, as in the case of Calvin Coolidge. The focus of the book seems to be on the "crazy" details.

Presidential policies are a political topic, and some things included in the book can be seen as arguable, as with all political ideas. But, most of what is included is quite interesting and entertaining. The book will definitely inspire you to read more about a few the presidents.

The section on the Civil War era presidents, especially Lincoln, is emotionally charged because of the sadness of the war. It really is a book that is well worth reading if you like presidential facts and minutiae.
