Publisher's Summary

If you are bored and unfulfilled by dry and overly worthy self-help manuals, then this is the audiobook for you! Listen to this and take a very different look at yourself!
Former SAS hero Andy McNab and eminent psychologist Professor Kevin Dutton are unlikely partners. As Oxford academic and bestselling author of The Wisdom of Psychopaths, Kevin Dutton has plenty of experience of psychopaths, but he'd never met anyone quite like Andy McNab, decorated war hero and special forces warrior. And although they took very different paths on their roads through life, their personal stories are remarkably similar.
Together they decided to explore the subject of the psychopathic condition using a unique combination of McNab's personal experiences of 20 years in the army and Dutton's ability to analyse them. In their words, McNab pulls the trigger, Dutton explains why the gun goes bang!
This audiobook sets out to answer two main questions: What is a good psychopath? And how can you use the positive attributes of that psychology to be the 'best that you can be' In order to do so, they have created a Psychopath Manifesto, an alternative set of rules for life, which begins by asking 'what do you really want from life' and 'what does success look like to you'? It then offers a candid and penetrating insight into those questions viewed using Dutton's expertise through the prism of Andy McNab's wild and various career. It aims to provide an unusual and entertaining roadmap to self-fulfillment whether in your personal life, your business life or your social life

I couldn't go the distance

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I've enjoyed Andy's books so far, but this is a work of self indulgence, navel gazing at its peak. It left me reaching for the off button.

Has The Good Psychopath's Guide to Success turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of Andy McNab and Kevin Dutton ’s performances?

No

What character would you cut from The Good Psychopath's Guide to Success?

I'd cut the whole book.

Surveys

Would you consider the audio edition of The Good Psychopath's Guide to Success to be better than the print version?

No, only because as I listened to this on a long car trip I could not write down the survey answers at the end of each chapter. It is a bit tedious to go back and do them again. I enjoyed the book, the content and the presentation. I looked to see if the quizzes were a download option and they are not.

Andy McNabb does it again!

Would you listen to The Good Psychopath's Guide to Success again? Why?

I really enjoyed this book. I've read most of Andy's books since 'Bravo Two Zero', and this one is very different, as with Kevin's input, providing the background to Andy's perspective and thoughts, it has a more scientific element. There are plenty of little nuggets of information that are very useful and could be used by the reader to enhance their lives. It is written in Andy's inimitable style, as some of the language used in the book is a little blunt and coarse.

It all seems to come down to an ability to seize an opportunity when it exists, without fear of the consequences for others. In other words the psychopath just does something (often with purpose and planning) without much conscience, agonising or consideration. He or she just sees that "the opportunity is there" and "if I don't take it someone else will." and "it's what has to be done." I felt that this book was aimed at giving you confidence in yourself and for you to believe in your own decisions? It's a more rigorously intellectual approach to decision making, but pros weigh more than cons, opportunities more than threats. In some scenarios getting our feelings out of the way is very useful, in others getting our thoughts and feelings to work together is a saner approach

There's an interesting, and rather different approach to life described in this book, particularly around making decisions and taking actions. It may not be everyone's way of working, but you can learn a lot from this approach. I would not recommend that everyone who reads this book implement all the ideas Andy and Kevin discuss in this book, but there are certainly some great little ideas that most people could use to enhance their lives and make some big improvements.

A must read!

What other book might you compare The Good Psychopath's Guide to Success to, and why?

Nothing like it to compare with.

Have you listened to any of Andy McNab and Kevin Dutton ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No - just very thought provoking.

Any additional comments?

No
