Publisher's Summary

More than three decades ago, a diving accident left Joni Eareckson Tada a quadriplegic. Back then she questioned how a loving God could condemn an active young woman to a lifetime in a wheelchair. Today she is grateful. Because it's from this vantage point that Joni has discovered a God who is so magnificent that no circumstance, no matter how terrible, can separate her, or you, from his fierce, tender, and enduring love. This is the work of a storyteller of rare ability, a book of honest pain and honest joy in the presence of God. This unabridged audio edition of Joni's gripping memoir will capture your imagination, unsuspectingly drawing you into Joni's story. In it you will uncover your own stories, your own memories, and your own encounters with the living God. His promises are sure. He will never leave you or forsake you. Joni Eareckson Tada paints a beautiful, intimate, and moving portrait of a woman who knows firsthand that no matter what the circumstance, God is always faithful. Always faithful. He is the God worthy of your love.

Intense, a learning experience

I have read most of Joni Eareckson Tada's books, so was looking forward to getting a copy of her latest to read. This one is read by the author (Joni) and I was glad to hear it read by her because her reading enables the hearer to more correctly interpret by her voice intonations and word emphasis the emotions she is trying to convey (I don't think the written word would have been as effective). Even if you're not in the "evangelical Christian" crowd, this book gives you a real picture (or as close as possible) of what it might be like to be extensively handicapped (Joni is a quadripalegic). The book covers different events from her life; it is very intense; I could only listen to it in half hour segments. Being a "Joni" fan, of course I was a bit prejudiced. But, I am going to make sure that a relative of mine who is battling cancer hears this. This book is the kind you must read or listen to several times. I loved it, not because it made me "feel good", but because I love to hear truth, and admire those who want to live life embracing it, even though it costs them seemingly everything.

Extremely relevant and personal

I mostly downloaded this for my wife to listen to, but I was hooked immediately. Joni relates as a real person with the same questons and concerns all of us have. She drives successfully at the real relationship between God and us, and why He is loved. I not only listened to the entire unabridged audiobook, but I played it again for my children (7 and 9). They have eagerly listened to all 14 hours back and forth from school. Every car ride began with an immediate request from them: "Let's hear the Joni story!". Much of what I want to say to my children is expressed in this memoir. And much of what God has to say to me is there too.
