Publisher's summary

One day, at the age of 31, Susan Richards realized that she was an alcoholic. She wrote it down in her journal, struck by the fact that it had taken nine years of waking up hung-over to name her illness. What had changed? Susan had a new horse, a spirited Morgan named Georgia, and, as she says, "It had something to do with Georgia. It had something to do with making a commitment as enormous as caring for a horse that might live as my companion for the next forty years. It had something to do with love."

Every day begins with a morning ride. Every day Susan lives a little more and thinks about her mistakes a little less. Every day she learns a little more from Georgia, the kind of horse who doesn't go in for indecision, who doesn't apologize for her opinions, and who isn't afraid to be herself. In Georgia, Susan finds something to draw her back to herself, but also something to keep her steady and focused, to teach her about stepping carefully in unknown territory, to help her learn again about balance. This is a memoir about the power of animals to carry us through the toughest times of our lives---about the importance of constancy, the beauty of quiet, steadfast love, the way loving a good (and sometimes bad!) animal can keep you going. It's a wonderful story for Susan's (and Georgia's) fans and for anyone who has ever loved an animal enough to keep on living.

Not as good as Chosen

What disappointed you about Saddled?

I really liked Chosen by a Horse. This book seemed like a repeat of that book, minus " Lay Me Down". And the author repeats the SAME stories over and over again! The last chapter is a regurgitation of the rest of the book. We know you were a drunk, you don't have to keep reminding us! I kept looking to see if I had chapters on repeat or something! The author was not a fun to listen to as the one who read Chosen.

Has Saddled turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I love horses and will listen to almost any book about them

What didn’t you like about Karen White’s performance?

She had an annoying, whiny voice.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The fact that it involved a horse.

A good life

As a horse owner and single person who lives with just my canines and equines, this book makes me think. I believe the author could give herself way more credit for using her intellect and education, along with her precious fur family, for saving her. But, I get it. Self esteem is a funny thing.

A beautiful story

Susan Richards is a fantastic writer, telling such a vivid story that I enjoy seeing it play out in my head as I listen. This is my second audiobook written by her and I will definitely look for more!

Wonderful & healing!

Very touching story about our love and connection to animals. I hope Susan continues her story. I would like to know the next chapter in her life.

Wonderful learning book even if you’ve never had a drink in your life

I love all of Susan Richards’ books. She writes with her heart and tells it like it is. I have never had a drink in my life, but I too love horses and write books. I think about her books long after I have finished them. I think she and I could be good friends, which is what most people probably think. Do yourself a favor and read her books.
