Publisher's Summary

Report from Engine Co. 82 is the story of one company of New York firefighters battling unimaginable death and destruction every day. Dennis Smith worked as a firefighter in the South Bronx, New York City, and the graphic detail and gripping prose of this firefighting classic drives the most important, accomplished, terrifying audiobook ever published on firefighting. This book struck a nerve within the nation when it was first published 30 years ago. In our troubled times, it gains even greater resonance for those trying to make sense of the deaths of so many New York firefighters on September 11, and for those inspired by the tireless work of firefighters and other rescue personnel in the aftermath of the destruction. Dennis Smith describes the bravery, heroism, camaraderie, and unflinching courage of New York's bravest, demonstrating how firefighters everywhere have become the most respected of American heroes.

Not what your ...

led to believe this is about. Its a great story on Firefighters, but what they talk about is already general knowledge of any firehouse in this country. Save your money.

Good book.

This was indeed a strong effort at a book about the busiest fire station in NYC (possibly the world) when it was written. The reader comes away with a solid understanding of what the experience is like. Tough, brave men who care about the community in which they serve -and most will never get the thanks they deserve despite risking life and limb. The writer is descriptive which is necessary when the scenes require so much detail. However, it was my opinion that the writer sometimes got in his own way- trying to do too much and be to lofty. He frequently quotes and references poetry which is all too the good but not what I am here for when reading a book of firefighting.

The narration is phenomenal. It is thoughtful and direct. The voice of this work genuinely tells a story rather than reading a script.
