Publisher's summary

Sir Tony Robinson is a much-loved actor, presenter and author with a stellar career lasting over 50 years. Now, in his long-awaited autobiography, he reveals how the boy from South Woodford went from child stardom in the first stage production of Oliver!, a pint-size pickpocket desperately bleaching his incipient moustache, to comedy icon Baldrick, the loyal servant and turnip aficionado in Blackadder.

It wasn't all plain sailing, though. Along the way he was bullied by Steve Marriott, failed to impress Liza Minnelli and was pushed into a stinking London dock by John Wayne. He also entertained us with Maid Marion and Her Merry Men (which he wrote and starred in) and coped manfully when locked naked outside a theatre in Lincoln during the live tour of comedy series Who Dares Wins. He presented Time Team for 20 years, watching countless gardens ruthlessly dug up in the name of archaeology, and risked life and limb filming The Worst Jobs in History.

Packed full of incident and insight, No Cunning Plan is a funny, self-deprecating and always entertaining listen.

A great story

This was a fabulous way to rest while having Covid. Fun small stories in a larger overall arch. Mr Robinsons voice is restful and pleasant.

Tony Robinson is a Genuine Treasure

"No Cunning Plan" is irreverent throughout, poignant and affecting at times and thoroughly entertaining. Don't forget that this autobiography comes from a well-seasoned charmer not only of the screen and stage, but also of the script and page. Do you know of any other book that features appearances by Tony Blair AND John Wayne?

I laughed, I cried

I admit I am a fan and am terribly biased, but I loved this audiobook. Mr. Robinson's wry sense of humour peppered his stories well. I followed the more difficult moments of life with emotions apparent. I look forward to listening to the stories over when I listen again in a couple of years. You can't say better that that about most autobiographies!

I should have such a plan

"Ah, 'No Cunning Plan' – the story of Tony Robinsons’ life, which, as it turns out, wasn't so cunningly planned after all! This book is a delightful potpourri of his misadventures and serendipitous encounters which might make you think he”s lived nine lives. It's witty, funny, and charming – much like he is in real life, as least, I’d like to think so.

Despite a lack of any grand strategy, he managed to bumble through life with a good degree of success. From a loving family to a mosaic of relationships – lovers, partners, friends, politicians – it's all there in the pages, woven with heartwarming moments and the inevitable touch of sadness. It's a life filled with incredible people, fantastic journeys, and yes, even a nod from Her Majesty.

Reading his story, you'll find that he’s had his share of ups and downs, blunders, and moments of glory. It's a tale of a life unplanned, yet somehow, he stumbled upon a life that one could have planned any better. So, here's to the long life of Sir Tony – a bit of a legend - forever a part of time itself. Grab a cuppa and enjoy the read – it's a bumpy, yet utterly enjoyable read!"

Tony Robinson Absolute Legend

Absolute legend Tony Robinson regales you with his interesting life story. I grew up loving watching him in comedy and was thrilled to learn there was so much more about the man.

Must Read for those fans of Sir Tony Robsinson

An astounding book, rings with honesty. Sir Tony Robinson does not skip or gloss over anything and this work of prose is all the better for it. He laid bare what many of us would consider to be private, making the book all the more real to the reader
