Publisher's summary

Renowned pianist/composer/recording artist Robin Spielberg's brave and funny memoir Naked on the Bench: My Adventures in Pianoland offers listeners an inside look at many of the entertaining series of events and circumstances that followed Spielberg throughout her illustrious career. Whether it's performing at a private party for television news legend Peter Jennings, acting on the stages of Lincoln Center, or trekking through the Montana wilderness with a Steinway in tow, Spielberg tells of her adventures with humor, passion and great detail.

As a child, Robin Spielberg had a recurring dream that there were secret rooms inside her living room piano. Listeners are now also treated to the secrets revealed in these rooms, as they follow her seemingly elusive quest for a measurement of success in her life as a performing artist, which comes at last, in the most unlikely of places.

Engaging reflections delivered with delight

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Fascinating insights and stories focusing on aspects of a career musician, mother, and all-round engaging personality's personal and very musical life journey. There is great depth to some of what Robin says and the way the stories are arranged focuses on each thread as opposed to being linear which I found fantastic and conversational.

What about Robin Spielberg’s performance did you like?

One of the best narrations I have heard in an audiobook. Gentle amusement, joy, and excitement permeate the entire piece, and Robin clearly takes great delight in recounting her story. Fantastic.

Any additional comments?

If you have never heard of Robin Spielberg (I had not either) please don't let that put you off listening, it is a great story told with passion and conviction by the author - what more could you want?

Loved the energy and storytelling in this book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have already recommended this audiobook to plenty of people! I listened to it on my morning runs and they went by too fast! Some days I even slowed down so I could hear more.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the story about playing at the fancy hotel with the waterfall and instead of fighting the waterfall, Robin learns to embrace it and play to it. This scene was a very powerful one for me and a wonderful lesson I've called upon in my own life since reading it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! But, I made myself take it slowly and savor it.

Any additional comments?

Robin is a wonderful reader! She reads with tremendous energy and honest emotion, plus she does great voices and accents! I could see her feelings clearly as I listened. It was a treat. The images she paints are easy to picture and the reader very quickly becomes a part of the story.

One of the Best

I enjoyed hearing more about Robin and her experiences. I felt as if I was hearing Robin talk to me personally just as my wife and I did at her concerts and intermissions in Troy and Greenville, Ohio. Thank Robin for the book and keeping in touch with me and Terri. We are extremely appreciative of Robin's music and the very personal book.
