Publisher's summary

After questioning their childhood and adolescence, Dante decides to document and discuss what they remember. The truth grows harder to swallow, as old memories bubble up.

This is a poignant look at a childhood filled with bad choices and poor parenting, with dark humor to soften the blow.

When one grows up under rampant alcoholism and covert narcissism, one learns that anything can look normal, if you don't know what normal is.

A child's perspective

A very interesting look into the life of a child who's mother was an alcoholic. Kept my interest throughout.

Kind of boring.

I kept listening for this to get better. Sadly it never did. It wasn't a awful story, it was just boring. She seemed whiny to me more then anything. I know growing up with a parent who likes to drink is nothing to be made light of, been there done that... but I kind of thought she was lucky and got away easy with her life. I seen, heard and have personally been through worse with a parent who likes to drink.

The narrator did a good job and I would listen to a book she reads again.

WOW....

A glimpse into the childhood scarred by an alcoholic mother... sadly, this is more common today than it should be, and I'm so sorry for anyone who had to go through that. When I was young, I was a great kid until I hit about 13, then there went that. I was horrific to my sweet, southern parents, and thought I knew everything, and wondered why they were put on the earth to torture me. Now, at 50, they're gone, and I am sooooo eternally grateful for the loving, wonderful environment in which I was raised. They were AMAZING parents - I didn't see it then, but after hearing so many stories like this, I know how lucky I was. I wish every single kid on earth could be loved and cared for, encouraged and shown how to live a good life in today's crazy society. Anyway, enough about me LOL, I thought this book was amazing, and the narration was great also. Excellent job :)

Be careful of the Dragon

I literally could not stop listening to this book. This literally was my life growing up, only I did not put down my memories, just trying to forget it all. This author, allows the listener to know their darkest concerns and fears as I child....an innocent child that knows, no better of how her mother's behavior is wrong on so many levels.....mind games, desertion, driving while drinking, not caring about the safety of her minor child and leaves out in the cold, only to be abused by neighbors..... It sounds as if by the end of the book, she (the author), has received the mental help/counseling that is needed to help this healing process.

The narrator was fantastic and almost had like a natural feeling to the story, as if it was really the author herself.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
