Publisher's summary

Born into one of the wealthiest families in America - he was the youngest son of Standard Oil scion John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and the celebrated patron of modern art Abby Aldrich Rockefeller - David Rockefeller has carried his birthright into a distinguished life of his own. His dealings with world leaders from Zhou Enlai and Mikhail Gorbachev to Anwar Sadat and Ariel Sharon, his service to every American president since Eisenhower, his remarkable world travels and personal dedication to his home city of New York - here, the first time a Rockefeller has told his own story, is an account of a truly rich life.

Critic reviews

"It is a rare author who can write about himself with openness and candor, but David Rockefeller has succeeded brilliantly. His discussion of his upbringing and of the obligations imposed by great wealth is fascinating, as are his personal reflections on four generations of Rockefellers. What the book also reveals, unconsciously but with great clarity, is the decency, integrity, and humanity of David Rockefeller himself." (Dr. Henry Kissinger)
"Long before globalization became a household word, David Rockefeller realized the importance of cultivating strong, trusting relationships with countries and their leaders around the world. We are privileged to be the beneficiaries of his lifelong commitment to world peace, and to have his reflections on these experiences in this superb memoir." (Nelson Mandela)
"In these memoirs, David Rockefeller provides an account of his life that is candid, incisive, and moving. Whether writing about his remarkable family, his distinguished career, or his important role in world affairs, he offers a unique and invaluable perspective on our times." (Kofi Annan, secretary general of the United Nations)

Stunningly good and packed with information

This is absolutely one of the best autobiographies I’ve ever seen and part of the beauty is that it compresses over 100 years of history into one book. (Mr. Rockfeller live to be 105 so he saw it all)

Mr. Rockefeller‘s influence building, Chase bank world headquarters in the wall street district and his contributions to New York City overall are amazing. Not to mention other major globally stabilizing commitments it is a joy to read.

I think that the world, all across the world could use a lot more people like Mr. Rockefeller today!

Amazing and inspiring

One of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century David Rockefeller shares the story of his life and covers different sides of it - from his business and philanthropic path to his relationships with relatives, friends and partners. The book contains a great amount of wisdom and business ideas for those who can read between the lines. I personally read quite a lot of biographies and have to say that Memoirs by David Rockefeller most definitely landed in my Top5 list

Astounding!

Even Though I don't agree 100% with his ideology and methodology, this book enlightened me on how the Elite works and how they develop since their school years, till they're old. Also helped me to understand, love and embrace Capitalism and it's free market (even though not 100%) and motivated me to focus on the Knowledge about Economics and its importance for a prosperous society and for oneself.... Also The narrator MAAAAN!! He just made at least 60% of the book to be even more interesting. Great Job

Better than expected

This book was referred by a friend. I didn’t know Mr. Rockefeller until reading. I found the historical aspects of the book fascinating and the authors explanation from the family point of view detailed and brilliant.

Enlightening and well produced.

David Rockefeller spends a lot of time focused on his career at Chase and nearly glosses over the depth of his personal life and minimalises how his family influence has shaped the modern world.
