Publisher's summary

Make every step count in your leadership journey.

How did American military leaders in the brutal POW camps of North Vietnam inspire their followers for six, seven, and even eight years to remain committed to the mission, resist a cruel enemy, and return home with honor? What leadership principles engendered such extreme devotion, perseverance, and teamwork? In this powerful and practical book, Lee Ellis, a former Air Force pilot, candidly talks about his five and a half years of captivity and the 14 key leadership principles behind this amazing story. As a successful executive coach and corporate consultant, he helps leaders of Fortune 500 companies, healthcare executives, small business owners, and entrepreneurs utilize these same pressure-tested principles to increase their personal and organizational success.

In Leading with Honor: Leadership Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton, you will learn:

  • Courageous lessons from POW leaders facing torture in the crucible of captivity
  • How successful teams are applying these same lessons and principles
  • How to implement these lessons using the Coaching sessions provided in each chapter

This book is ideal for individual or group study as a personal development, coaching, human resource development, or executive training.

I was humbled by the sacrifices made

I normally only listen to business books and rarely deviate from them. I expected this book to be another hard core business book and was a bit surprised that it was actually a mixture of both business and the authors experiences while in prison during the Vietnam war. Wow, was I glad that I overlooked the books overview. This was one of the most inspiring, motivational and humbling book. The author parallels the leadership skills exhibited while in enemy prison with business leadership.

This was the first time that I learned the details of the Vietnam prison conditions and the leadership skills exhibited to sustain their well being for years in prison. I was extremely humbled by the sacrifices made by our military. Because of this, every American should listen to this audio book to better understand our history.

Also, I especially appreciated the fact that the author made the audio recording himself. He is genuine and enthusiastic.

This is a book you defiantly should consider adding to your library.

Amazing story

This story is an example of what pure mental strength looks like. It’s also an example of what a God fearing nation’s soldiers can accomplish. We are so incredibly fortunate to live in this free nation with the best people on earth. This is so many times taken for granted, however this book will help show what many have sacrificed so we may live, in this wonderful place.

A Good Read

There are many books on leadership and personal growth out there. There also lots of books on the Vietnam POW experience. This one uses Vietnam POW experiences to articulate good leadership. Since my interest lies in the latter, I skipped the former. It was still a good read.
