Publisher's summary

A magical, heartwarming memoir from one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons

Over the past four decades, the landmark NBC hit television series I Dream of Jeannie has delighted generations of audiences and inspired untold numbers of teenage crushes on its beautiful blond star, Barbara Eden. Part pristine Hollywood princess and part classic bombshell, with innocence, strength, and comedic talent to spare, Barbara finally lets Jeannie out of her bottle to tell her whole story.

Jeannie Out of the Bottle takes us behind the scenes of I Dream of Jeannie as well as Barbara’s dozens of other stage, movie, television, and live concert performances. We follow her from the hungry years when she was a struggling studio contract player at 20th Century Fox through difficult weeks trying to survive as a chorus girl at Ciro’s Sunset Strip supper club, from a stint as Johnny Carson’s sidekick on live TV to tangling on-screen and off with some of Hollywood’s most desirable leading men, including Elvis Presley, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, and Warren Beatty. From the ups and downs of her relationship with her Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman to a touching meeting with an exquisite and vulnerable Marilyn Monroe at the twilight of her career, readers join Barbara on a thrilling journey through her five decades in Hollywood.

But Barbara’s story is also an intimate and honest memoir of personal tragedy: a stillborn child with her first husband, Michael Ansara; a verbally abusive, drug-addicted second husband; the loss of her beloved mother; and the accidental heroin-induced death of her adult son, just months before his wedding. With candor and poignancy, Barbara reflects on the challenges she has faced, as well as the joys she has experienced and how she has maintained her humor, optimism, and inimitable Jeannie magic throughout the roller-coaster ride of a truly memorable life.

Illustrated with sixteen pages of photographs, including candid family pictures and rare publicity stills, Jeannie Out of the Bottle is a must-have for every fan, old and new.

Touching Autobiography by Barbara Eden!

So well narrated by Ms. Eden herself. I loved the frank and down to earth way she has told her story. I loved every minute of listening to her familiar voice. I was touched by her description of her son's passing and struggles with drug addiction. Thank you Barbara Eden for your honesty.

Rise above

Really good. Read by Barbara Eden herself. About the tough times in her life and being tough - Rise above is a motto she found useful - as well as the fun and laughter along the way. An interesting look at the life of a Hollywood star who became an icon in the early 60s

My wish fulfilled

Like most guys growing up when I did, I had a deep crush on Jeannie. Now I have a new feeling of respect for Barbara Eden. To meet this remarkable woman would be another wish come true.
She tells a good story and unlike a lot of books now, she doesn’t dish out dirt on fellow actors. She is down to earth and honest. Very refreshing.

An exceptional and impactful story of the life of Barbara Eden

An exceptionally impactful story of her life. And iconic woman that had a good life and is exceptional in every way. Yet even people that have one of our lives have issues going on in their lives just like everyone else. Many of us put our icons on pedestals and think they live the perfect life and yet Sadly they live life just as we do. There are problems in their lives sad things happen in their lives they have challenges in their lives and life still goes on. Just like it does for all of us. Barbara Eden was a major piece of my childhood and as a child I had a crush on the beautiful genie who had magic and could do amazing things. Life went on I grew up she went different things and yet I did not realize among her life and acting that she had so much painful things going on in her life and around her. This story of her life and her time on a dream of Jeannie and beyond is extraordinary and eye-opening to say the least. She is and will always be one of my icons that I admire. Now I understand that even though she had success and as they call it fame. She’s just a normal person trying to live life and be the person she was raised to be. I hope she stays well and is with us for a very long time. Read the book it is well worth reading and it might even make you tear up at moments.

Light and fun...everybody loves Jeannie

Everybody loves Jeannie and if so, you will enjoy her book also.
This is on a par with Betty White's book which I enjoyed also.
My personal taste runs to more serious and educational books
but in between these I need to take a break and enjoy quicker and
more entertaining reads. Jeannie was fun and enjoyable.
