Publisher's Summary

When all seems lost, where can hope be found?
Katherine and Jay married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams, they planted their lives in the city and in their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just six months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family.
On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into brain microsurgery, though her chance of survival was slim.
As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was completely uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through 40 days on life support in the ICU and nearly two years in full-time brain rehab, that spark of hope was fanned into flame.
Defying every prognosis with grit and grace, Katherine and Jay, side by side, struggled to regain a life for Katherine as she relearned to talk and eat and walk. Katherine returned home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose; she and Jay committed to celebrating this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different from what they could have ever imagined. In the midst of continuing hardships and struggles in both body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find: hope. Hope that heals the most broken places: our souls.
An excruciating yet beautiful road to recovery has led the Wolf family to their new normal, in which almost every moment of life is marked with the scars of that fateful April day in 2008. Now, eight years later, Katherine and Jay are stewarding their story of suffering, restoration, and Christ-centered hope in this broken world through their ministry Hope Heals.

Helpful, thought provoking book.

One of my favorite attributes of the book Is the raw honesty this couple exhibit. They are not self seeking, but they are real. If you think you're having it tough, and you probably are, this is the book for you. I gave it 5 stars because it kept me engaged throughout the reading, and I don't how how they could have improved on it.

Powerful, intimate, tear evoking, inspiring! ! !

This book, biography, was so powerful for me. I too have suffered many of the same tragedies. So many of the same emotions. This book was healing in so many ways. Katherine is such a beautiful soul. Suffering well is a blessing. I never understood why people would complement me for the what I have gone thru and kept my spirt up. I would this, what the heck are they talking about? I would say to my husband "Why are they saying these things? All I have done is stay alive and I had no choice in that." Now I understand, I have inspired people by not being angry, sad, bitter, well at least not often. I love hearing from Jay's point of view. Both Jay and Katherine are so elequint. To be ably to articulate the horrific events and emotions puts so much perspective and validation to the way my family has felt. Knowing that I, my family, Jay and Katherine are God's children. My favorite line in the book was what they said about times of trial, "God may not save us from the furnace but he will walk thru the flames with you." Suffering well is difficult. I could NOT stop listening to their story! The two narrators where wonderful. I could really get into the moment with the inflection and character in which the story was told. I want everyone to read this book!!! God bless Katherine and Jay for the gift oh Hope!
