Publisher's summary

"As he was rising, I saw Brian raise the loaded Glock .40 pistol towards the approaching SWAT officers. I wanted to scream for him to stop; I knew he was about to fulfill his ultimate goal."

What do you say to prevent someone from committing "suicide-by-cop"? Or has a gun pointed at a hostage? Or an armed man who has barricaded himself in a hotel room? Or a despondent woman who is threatening to kill herself? Veteran police negotiator Lieutenant Dennis Flynn spent nearly two decades responding to more than 1,000 of these and other high-intensity incidents with the Crisis Negotiations Team in Las Vegas, Nevada. His goal: Bring 'em out alive!

This audiobook is a behind-the-scenes view of life-and-death situations that police negotiators face, and how they were resolved one way or the other under the bright lights and glitter of Sin City.

About the author: Lt. Dennis Flynn served 30 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and spent 18 of those years with the Crisis Negotiations Team including 10 years as the team leader. He has traveled throughout the United States and Canada providing training for police negotiators. He retired in 2015 and still resides in the Las Vegas area with his wife and three sons.

Great book, Not as great Narrator

Great book, some good things to learn from and reflect on...Narrated by Casey Kasum meets the Florida Orange Juice commercial guy. Turn up his narration speed and it's a little better...

As a fellow Negotiator....

As a fellow negotiator, (not for LVMPD), I can say that this book is a great account of the different types of situations we are faced with. After listening to it, I have since included it as a training resource for my team.

Must read for real world Hostage Negotiators

I have actually had the opportunity to attend one of Mr. Flynns trainings and meet him in person and I must say, he is very passionate about the police work that he does. When it comes to Crisis Intervention and Hostage Negotiations, this man knows what he is talking about. He is a brilliant expert in the field. This book talks about his experiences and there is tons of gold nuggets to be extracted from this book. I highly recommend this book for those Hostage Negotiators working in the field or those who are thinking about getting into Crisis Intervention/ Hostage Negotiations.

zzzzzzzzzzz

Compelling material, inexpertly told, narrated by a game show announcer.

This should have been a fantastic book. The material's there, but it would have benefitted greatly by a good editor. And the narration is completely wrong for the material.

Still 3-stars despite these large problems. There are better cop memoirs out there, e.g. The Job.
