Publisher's summary

One of the most talented and polarizing athletes of our generation, Michael Vick’s stunning story has captured news headlines across the nation. From his poverty-stricken youth, to his success on the field in high school and college, to his rise to NFL stardom and his fall from grace, Finally Free shows how a gifted athlete’s life spiraled out of control under the glare of money and fame, aided by his own poor choices.

In his own words, Vick details his regrets, his search for forgiveness, the moments of unlikely grace - and the brokenness that brought his redemption on the way to his celebrated return to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Critic reviews

"Finally Free tells an amazing story. It’s not all pretty, but it’s real. This book will let you know why I’m so proud of Michael Vick and honored to call him a friend." (Tony Dungy, Former NFL head coach for the Indianapolis Colts)

Sugar Coated and Simplistic

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book to any of my friends because the primary reason this book was written is strictly to serve as a Public Relations move instead of with the purpose of giving a honest perspective on life experience many people are curious know. Instead of explaining how he (Michael Vick) feels he goes out of his way to try to make you believe he is a devoted Bible reading dog lover. By over stressing these points the overall theme and quality of the book is put in jeopardy.

Would you be willing to try another book from Michael Vick? Why or why not?

It will be very difficult for me invest time and money into a book by Michael Vick. The most disappointing thing about this book is that he comes across very simplistic and gives little insight into his intelligence. I believe Vick has some intelligence but he completely abandons

Would you be willing to try another one of Rodney Gardiner’s performances?

This narrator was extremely disappointing. I hope Michael Vick did not pay for this performance. Rodney Gardiner's performance gives Vick a less than intelligent reflection and gives the book the feel of a simplistic high school drop out. The narrator reads with below average expression and poor diction leading to a painful listening experience. I hope I never have the opportunity to listen to any of Rodney Gardiner's performances again.

Did Finally Free inspire you to do anything?

It does shed some light on some inside football information that true football fans will enjoy but after reading this book I am inspired to learn as much as possible to never come across as dull as Michael Vick did in this book. I feel inspired to make sure my children take advantage of all educational opportunities so that they do not sound as indolent and obtuse as this book reflects upon Michael Vick.

Nice story of redemption

This was a nice book. I enjoyed hearing how his life has changed dramatically through the things he has suffered at his own hand; however, I feel like he stayed away from the "things he did". I understand that may have been deliberate in an effort to focus on the restoration of Michael versus the mistakes. I would really like to have known more about the trouble to appreciate the triumph even more. None the less, it was a good book with many life lessons. Certanly something I would recommend.

Amazing story of redemption!

I bought this book back in its first pressing in 2012. I lost the book somehow and I’m stoked that I was able to find this on audible. I became a Michael Vick fan since 1999 when I saw his performance during the VT vs Florida state game. He received the title “mr. Electric” which in watching him was electrifying. Also an Atlanta Falcons fan as well, I was jumping for joy when Atlanta drafted him first round pick in 2001. Watching him play in his nfl years got everyone excited. He was the Michael Jordan of the nfl. No one now can compare to his performance during Atlanta and Philly. Anyway this audible book puts his life in perspective and it’s an honest story of his rise and fall and rise in the NFL and in life. Highly recommend this book!

Redemption

This man "manned up" and lost everything, only to gain so much more through redemption.
