Publisher's Summary

Echoes of My Soul relates the inside story of how Mel Glass, an assistant district attorney under the legendary DA Frank Hogan, took it upon himself to investigate the Career Girls Murders in Manhattan and another murder in Brooklyn, believing that the accused man, with an IQ of about 70, had been coerced into confessing murders he did not commit. It meant, of course, embarrassing the DA’s office and the police if they withdraw the charges of a confessed killer, but Mel was convinced of the wrong being done and DA Hogan told him, "Find the truth, Mel."

"Riveting...the most powerful story of American justice in our time." (Linda Fairstein)
"Echoes of My Soul has the excitement of a great work of fiction and it is not 'based upon' a real case. It is a real case and it is about a real hero." (Mark Lane)
"A strong candidate to become a true crime classic.... Brilliantly written and unfailingly riveting." (Vincent Bugliosi)

AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM

This book answers so many questions about Tanenbaum's own experiences that are brought to bear in his Butch and Marlene stories.

This book, however, stands on its own as a cornerstone to the real life heroes of The Office of The District Attorney of New York County with due homage to "Mr. District Attorney", Frank Hogan.

Personally I don't think there will ever be another like him. This book is a keeper!!

Life is as good as art

What did you love best about Echoes of My Soul?

This is a glimpse behind the facade into the judiciary system and the hearts and minds of some of the greatest legal professionals in the world - and for once, they are people with big hearts, not big egos. I felt inspired that men of this caliber do exist in one of the most complex cities in the world.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the characters - as if they were creatures of the author's imagination - but they were real people.

What about Traber Burns’s performance did you like?

Yes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I tried to - but I had to go to work.

Any additional comments?

Tanenbaum is an amazing fiction writer. His characters live inside him. But this is where they were born - right here in these people, in this world he describes. Clearly, his fiction is the result of the extraordinary world he cut his teeth on.
