Publisher's summary

"Warm, witty, imaginative... This is a rich and winning book." (The New Yorker)

Dust Tracks on a Road is the bold, poignant, and funny autobiography of novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, one of American literature's most compelling and influential authors. Hurston's powerful novels of the South - including Jonah's Gourd Vine and, most famously, Their Eyes Were Watching God - continue to enthrall readers with their lyrical grace, sharp detail, and captivating emotionality. First published in 1942, Dust Tracks on a Road is Hurston's personal story, told in her own words. The Perennial Modern Classics Deluxe edition includes an all-new foreword by Maya Angelou, an extended biography by Valerie Boyd, and a special section featuring the contemporary reviews that greeted the book's original publication.

Very nice!

Loved her story. She was way before her time in words, spirit, life and death.

Relatable in 2018

While I found Ms.Hurston quite critical of Blacks I also found her most objective and yet flavorful. If Ms.Hurston had spoken to me this very moment I would be shocked not to hear Ms.Tarpins voice.

About Time!

I didn’t know who she was, just kept hearing the name. So I listened. It was a wonderful story, beautifully narrated. I thought it must have been Zora herself and double checked.

It was good to hear of a past where a woman of color emerged triumphant in her education, and her life’s work. The book was written by the author and she spoke her truth. I am blessed to know her now!

Exceptional author. Exceptional narrator.

This production deserves 10 stars. Zora Neale Hurston was an outstanding writer and the narration does her work justice. Audible should seek out more of Hurston's works and produce them with this narrator.

Review

Loved it! I love Bahni Turpin. Great narration, she draws you into the stories she narrates. the appendix section of the book highlighted some profound things that are still going on today. I most memorable part was My People My People.

A must read any all

I usually don’t leave a review because most of the books I read and truly enjoy with the exception of a few. However, I had to do and Audible of Dust Tracks on a Road narrated by Bahni Turpin who did an absolute wonderful job. I can’t recommend this book/Audible enough. Thank you Ms Turpin for bringing Ms. Hurston’s one of my favorite authors voice to life. 👏🏾👏🏾🕊
