Publisher's summary

I went into teaching to change the world. Instead, my students changed me. These are some of my stories. I tell them at a time when education's gone from being a noble pursuit to the epicenter of a national storm. Good teachers are leaving the field at staggering rates. Politicians and pundits are out in full force. Everyone has something to say about education - everyone except the students and teachers in the classroom. Don't Sniff the Glue: A Teacher's Misadventures in Education Reform is the humorous and heartwarming story of one teacher working through idealism and red tape to teach the teens who will soon run the world.

Equal parts serious and humorous to education

What did you love best about Don't Sniff the Glue?

Don't Sniff the Glue goes well beyond a call for education reform or even insights into teaching. This book is for parents, teachers, mentors - anyone who has the opportunity to have a positive impact on our children.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Don't Sniff the Glue?

So many moments. Dawn uses her perspective from the front lines of teaching to not blast the system, but to shine a spotlight on how important teaching is to our kids and why people in the system need to be shaken into reality (and into this century) to make sure we're empowering our teachers to do all they can possibly do.

Just what I needed at this time year and at this time of change in education. Let us not forget why we teach. Thanks for the "read".

Don't sniff the glue... Sniff and Eat it!

The author leads the reader on a personal journey through what it's like to get into teaching. The protagonist fights her way within the culture of the public school system and its flaws. In the end, her eastern philosophy helps her realize that teachers should stop fighting to reform the system and just embrace it and that that will eventually make teachers feel enlightened and feel like winners... and that somehow this will help children. The conclusion really disappointed me, knowing what's happening in our ed. system. I recommend the book because of its description of what it's like in the system and its an entertaining read but just hold your nose.
