Publisher's summary

When journalist Isabel Vincent befriends Edward, both are at a crossroads: He wants to follow his late wife to the grave, and she is ready to give up on love.

Isabel's friend, Edward's daughter, lives far away and has asked Isabel to check in on her dad in New York. At first Isabel is just doing her duty. But soon this charming, elegant, cultured man has become her dear friend. She gives him a reason to go on without his beloved wife of 72 years, and he gives her a renewed faith that happiness is possible.

Each chapter in this true-life tale takes place at dinner at Edward's apartment, and, like Edward's meals, the whole adds up to so much more than the ingredients.

Good story

I was not crazy about the performance. The reader sometimes seemed to break up sentences where they weren't meant to be broken up, and had a bit of an overly sweet tone.

So lovely I think I'll buy a hardback!

What a charming, lovely and loving story with a background of food and recipes that keeps giving and giving. A very small criticism is the poor pronunciation of the French vocabulary. That certainly won't stop me from looking at this in print and spending the day cooking snd remembering cherished friends!

Wish it never ended

A story that makes you review and think about your life. Great for foodies who love the cookie tips. Wish it never ended.

Disappointing and uninspired

I love food and stories of unusual friendship, but this was painful to listen to

It was like listening to menus without much imagination with some tidbits of a weak and poorly edited story mixed in

The authorial voice and the narrators are both annoying. There is little reflection about the characters’ inner lives

The idea of a story unfolding over dinner is interesting but this book is not.
