Stimulating and human

While Coates diagnoses some of the problems inherent within American society, the true connection with the book lies in his naïveté. Through this naïveté he explores his own development as a black man in America. Although he has grown, his perspective remains quite partial in that he views the existence for people of color, namely black people, to be better in places such as France or Europe in general, which paints another portrait of inexperience on his part. The book uncovers profound truths; however, the author remains in the dark for some other as yet not uncovered realities.
