Publisher's Summary

The stand-up comedian of his generation. Star of stage and screen. Tireless supporter of charity. Runner. Political campaigner. Fashion icon. Human. There is no one quite like Eddie Izzard. This is the story of how a boy who wanted to become a professional footballer and win the lead in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat found comedy.
Affecting, witty and nothing less than rousing, listeners will, as Eddie himself says, 'look at my life and say, "If that idiot transvestite can run a whole bunch of marathons, play the Hollywood Bowl, and travel across France with a French-speaking tour, then what's holding me back?"'

Grit: A story of determination

Perhaps not quite what was expected - but if you want to learn about determination and finding self belief this is a must. The footnotes ramble a bit but that is part of the charm.

Thank you Mr Izzard, a great listen.

"... End of footnote..."

So generous and inspiring. I never knew he spent those early years in Northern Ireland (as did I) and now I love him more!

Wonderfully funny, tragic, hopeful and inspiring

I love Eddie Izzard, and if you too are a fan of his work and particularly his shows, you will not be disappointed by this audiobook. Being narrated by himself, Eddie owns what he reads and frequently engages you with extra commentary you wont find in the written book. This is partly because he is brave enough to tell you from the start that he is dyslexic. Yes, he stumbles over some bits, but this only draws you in further until you are almost vocally cheering him on and giving your smartphone (or favoured device) a big hug. Some parts are brutally sad, so be warned if you are listening to this book in public. But you will equally benefit from a tissue or three in your pocket for the absolutely hillarious jokes and anecdotes. In summary, get this audiobook.

a funny and touching tonic to hard times.

The audio book is the only way, in my opinion, to experience Eddie Izzard's autobiography. The scattergun approach to telling of his life story, pulling in footnotes and anecdotes from across all of time just makes sense when read by the man himself. there are also several extra asides that obviously come to Eddie in the moment and are not present in the written text. there are many instances of repetition in the book, which may be irritating for some but for fans of the surreal stories in Mr Izzard's stand up are par for the course. I thoroughly recommend this book it is a funny and touching account of one of the most persistent and resilient men in show business that has operated as a tonic to me, who needed a timely reminder of what perseverance and self belief can do.

WOW! ....... just WOW!

I've always enjoyed when my daughter plays some of Eddie's vids on YouTube but have never looked his work up myself nor seen him live.

I bought this book purely because I'd had a laugh at some of his work and really did not have any thoughts on what to expect so to have found myself glued to it until the end was a delightful surprise.

I recommend this book to anyone who'd like to hear about how to keep a positive attitude at all times and hear a beautiful calm view on the people in our world.

For what it's worth I read or listen to a book every three days on average and I think this may only be the second time I've written a review and this for no other reason than I got so much joy out of the book.

I hope any who read this and decide to buy a copy enjoy it as much or even more than I did.

Sharing and caring in a get real bundle.

A tale of a philosopher, story teller and all round good human.
'Easy' listening with a dash of laugh out loud, a good yarn with substantial lessons for the budding performer so thanks to him.
