Publisher's Summary

Is anyone listening? Do my prayers really change anything? Jared Brock sensed that something was missing in his prayer life, so he embarked on a yearlong journey to rediscover the power of prayer (and eat some delicious falafel). Follow Jared on a 37,000-mile trip around the world as he: dances with Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn, discovers the 330-year-old home of Brother Lawrence, plants prayer bombs in North Korea, burns his clothes at the end of the world, attends the world's largest church, and attempts fire walking (with only minor burns).

Challenging, Encouraging, and Entertaining

This book is more than just Jared's journey through the various prayer traditions throughout the world. It's a challenge to the followers of Christ to pray, to really pray, and to seek their Lord like He is truly worthy of it.
Encouragement is definitely found in the fact that Jared and many he encountered in his journey struggle with prayer. There is no "arriving" at a place where you've got it figured out.
The snarky sense of humor and sometimes hilariously questionable accents made this a truly enjoyable experience.
I will absolutely be sharing this book with everyone.

Good follow-up to Before Amen

I enjoyed this book for the way in which the author related how his experiences changed and informed his practice of prayer.

Enlightening for religious and non-religious folks

What did you like most about A Year of Living Prayerfully?

The author is incredibly open and curious, looking for inspiration to deepen his prayer practice in some of the unlikeliest places. Also he is deeply respectful and appreciative of people different from himself.

What other book might you compare A Year of Living Prayerfully to, and why?

The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs: both authors transform as a result of their journey. Jared Brock goes on an actual journey, but the inner journeys are comparable: both learn more, appreciate more and change their own routines as a result of what they have found.

Have you listened to any of Jared Brock’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I believe this is his only audiobook. But I will definitely give it a try if he records another one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the sections about Judaism and Quakers. An incident in North Korea was a bit scary.

Any additional comments?

Jared is a Christian through and through. I am not but I still got a lot of inspiration from this book.
