Publisher's summary

Duff McKagan is one of the most respected survivors in hard rock. In How to Be a Man, he shares the wisdom he gained on the path to superstardom - from his time with Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver to getting sober after a life of hard living to achieving his personal American dream of marrying a supermodel, raising a family, and experiencing what it's like to be winked at by Prince.

An interviewer's favorite, McKagan's wisdom has been sought out on everything from financial planning and relationships to surviving the summer festival circuit and escaping a military coup. Expanding on his popular weekly columns in Seattle Weekly and on playboy.com and espn.com, McKagan equips listeners with the knowledge they need to rock fatherhood, manage their money, and remain a good dude in spite of it all.

Overly dramatic reader.

Enjoyed the book but the reader was so off putting. To dramatic - no one talks like that in real life. Would have been better if read by author

Why was this awful narrator used?

What made the experience of listening to How to Be a Man the most enjoyable?

The stories told are interesting enough and fun to listen to, but you have to really work to pretend you're not hearing that narrator's voice. It honestly sounds like hobbit from New Zealand that's trying to have a Nashville accent, but doing so poorly, and is WAY overdramatic, as if he's telling a ghost story over a campfire. It just really ruins the whole experience. Would have been a thousand times better if Duff would have just narrated it himself, or at least someone that sounds something like a rocker from the states.

What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Be a Man?

I like his list of "must haves" in your music collection. I very much agree with him on nearly everything.

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Berkrot’s performances?

If I was listening to to something different. Nothing against him, but he was just NOT the person for that book…AT ALL! Who made that call?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

Might be worth re-doing. The stories are fun.

Had some good things in it but hated the narrator

The book it self was not bad but the narrator's voice was annoying. If it wasn't for Duff doing a good job with the book I would not have continued it.

I loved his first book. This was a pretty good read. If you don't have his first book check that out for sure.

Not nearly as good as his first book

His first book was awesome. One of my favorite rock docs. This book had too many lists not enough to say and really no stories about his life as a rockstar.

Good storytelling

Duff is a such an incredibly talented writer, storyteller, musician, and the list goes on! However, having JUST 'read' the amazing "It's So Easy", I have to say that it was a tough act to follow.
Still inspiring & appreciated though!!!

Duff has some great stories

And has a good outlook on life - appreciative, humble and positive. Looking forward to his next book with a new narrator.

Duff needs to keep writing!!!

Been a lifelong GNR fan and never thought much of Duff tbh. Stumbled upon his first book a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! This book is also fantastically written, but like so many others I wish it had a different narrator reading it…
Duff is. Great writer with valuable insights into life. Definitely recommend the book!

Duff is worth a listen…always

But the orator blows.

Hey, you are NOT the rock star, leave the verbal affliction thereof out and just focus on the substance.

Which is definitely worth it
