ART & LITERATURE IN THE REAL WORLD
"A Shortcut to Art and Literature" could aptly be subtitled "Art & Literature Conversations in the Real World." Overall, I rated this work four stars, very good to excellent. What I especially enjoyed about this audio is the simulated and sometimes humorous discussion of art and literature in the context of a sophisticated woman and her artistically naive boyfriend at the opening of a new museum exhibit. This approach contextually welds artistic and literary terms, concepts, periods, and movements to a truly commonplace event. This contextual welding will help you learn and remember the key concepts explored by the actors on this audio. So, the next time you want to impress your girlfriend, boyfriend, friends, or simply want to deepen your understanding of essential knowledge in the field of art and literature -- then this tape is for you. It's a good idea, though, to obtain an art book and some of the more significant literary texts from your library or local bookshop, for their is no real substitute for seeing art or reading books (even if you skim or speed read). It would be a great service to its customers if Audible would expand and include in this website special links to the terms, concepts, periods, and works mentioned not only in this audio but also in all the nonfiction audios of this type. This way, you could listen to the audio and click on a link to see or explore in even greater detail the knowledge presented in Audible's many non-fiction audios. What is missing in most of Audible's audios is summary print material. The lack of print material to support and summarize the audio books may be consequent of the audio versus print copyright law, but I am not certain about this. This does not stop me from purchasing dozens of fine audios from Audible, but I wish Audible's management would find a way to provide a print download for each of the nonfiction audio books sold.
