UNIQUE, GRIPPING, EDGE OF YOUR SEAT STORYTELLING

Julie.. Julie.. Julie.. you twisted my mind so damn good with this your latest romantic suspense story in the Jordan’s Game series and, for a whole day (and part of a night) I was totally wrapped up in this fast-paced story. Lost to who was playing/who was acting, who was a good guy/who was a villain, what was fantasy/what was real.. and who was actually pulling all the strings. But the one thing I WAS certain about was the chemistry between kick-ass Self Help Guru Izzy Grey and Special Agent Finn Murphy because it felt absolutely natural and real that they clicked in just a short time period and that they felt the passion and that they took their pleasures. But then again, a hell of a lot did happen in those thrilling hours they were together (which felt like years).. and their suspenseful ride was eye-opening and intense.

Izzy is a pint-sized Jujitsu Champion with a terrible past but now she’s chiselled out a new life as an Inspirational Life Coach to downtrodden women.. but, after one crazy meeting with Jordan, Izzy’s life is uprooted, spun and her final destination is unclear and potentially dangerous. And, accompanying Izzy, protecting Izzy, falling in love with Izzy, betraying Izzy.. or all or none of the above, is Finn Murphy.. maybe FBI/maybe not.. maybe playing his own game/maybe not.. maybe getting played/maybe not.. maybe hero/maybe not.. but definitely hiding a whole hell of a lot. But then so is Izzy.

JA Huss has excelled herself, surpassed my high expectations and has blown me away with this cleverly weaved unpredictable dual POV adventure.. with the action-packed build-up, the slow to reveal secrets, the clash and burn of the sex scenes, the chemistry you could cut with a knife, the twists and turns.. and everything else in-between was masterful. And so too was the narration which took this listen to the next level.. the level above five stars.. the level where only the best of the best reside.

Worth a credit? Yes absolutely.. and let the games continue.

A UNIQUE & COMPELLING STORY EPICALLY NARRATED

Wow.. wow. wow.. this exciting four book series is growing - and building - and brewing ready to explode in its climactic end later on in the year. Meanwhile the perfection continues with Donatella’s story and she’s definitely her mother’s daughter.. she’s cold, ruthless and very ambitious.. but the top spot in the Callahan/Giovanni Mafia has already been taken by her brother.. so where does that leave Donatella? It leaves her craving more.. it leaves her vying for power.. and it leaves her carving out her own destiny thanks to a mysterious alpha stranger who only has a first name.. well, he’s also got an agreement to marry her.

Book 1 was a pretty much an insta-love story.. but this book is a delicious slow-burn of quick-witted banter and a push/pull relationship that sets the groundwork for another spin-off series and for love.. but there are many hurdles to cross, secrets that are yet to be revealed, revelations that are shocking and a bloody tbc ending no one saw coming. Donatella’s got to be conquered not wooed so it’s light on romance and I daren’t say any more.. except JJM’s writing abilities are absolutely limitless. She continues to spin a unique and intricate Mafia web, she continues to plot-build and plot-bomb, she continues to grab, grip, shock, chill and thrill.. she continues to leave me speechless.. and she continues to make me yearn for more more more. Again there’s multiple POV’s and Joel Froomkin’s awesome skills as a narrator continues to blow me away.

Worth a credit? Yes very.

I WAS HOOKED AND HAPPY FROM THE START

What a great angst-ridden story.. I didn’t want to stop it - and barely did as the planned pre-arranged fake marriage turned into so much more. There are quite a few romance books out there with the same sort of trope but this book was fresh and exciting as Playboy Weston slowly makes room in his home and heart for Elizabeth, how he battles with strange new feelings and how, despite his good intentions, he gets sideswiped at the end. And, for Elizabeth, a fake marriage will release her cousin’s hold over her father’s company.. the one she’s yearned for for so long and should’ve inherited but, the more she gets to know Weston, the more she likes him. In fact, the more they bicker and verbally spar with each other the more she’s drawn towards him and the more their lives blend the closer they become. However, Elizabeth has to remind herself over and over and over again that it isn’t real.. that they’re just pretending.. and most importantly that it’s got an end date.

This trio delivered a very entertaining dual POV listen that had humor, angst, oceans of feels and a wonderful build-up of sizzling chemistry, lust and love... but sadly that might not be enough to save this pair. So I’m off to listen to the second book in this Duet now.. eager to hear how the games will continue. Nice descriptive scenes, tension and tingles mingled, character growth and a nice balance of sexy scenes.

Worth a credit? Yes it definitely would’ve been.. but both of these books are available in the Romance Package so yay I didn’t need to use one.. which made it even sweeter.

A SEAMLESS SPIN-OFF THAT KICKS-STARTS THE NEW ERA

This is an entertaining spin-off series from the absolutely spellbinding Ruthless People Mafia series and, although I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as its predecessors, it was everything I’d hoped it would be.. even if it did have more or a melancholy feel rather than a humorous one. Nearly two decades have passed since the end of the last series and now it’s 28 yr old Ethan who is the Ceann na Conairte of the Irish Callahan/Italian Giovanni Mafia dynasty that rule Chicago.. the dynasty that Liam and Melody left behind after their bloody bitter battles were finally over and they both paid the ultimate price. The sibling dynamics are still there between Ethan, Wyatt and Donatella.. but they’ve each got very different attitudes and ambitions. You don’t HAVE to listen to Ruthless People before this.. but I hope and urge you to because a) you’ll be missing out on an awesome epic dark yet humorous series.. b) because it gives you the groundwork of the characters.. and c) it sets the pace for the continuation of the Callahan dynasty in this new series.

Ethan is cold, structured and he’s a genius at forward planning, he uses his intelligence rather than his emotions, he’s very much in charge of all things ‘family’ and now he wants a wife.. but not just any woman.. no, it’s got to be rough around the edges Ivy.. a feisty jailbird who has already served seven years of a long sentence for a murder she didn’t commit. The reasons why Ethan chose Ivy will eventually become clear.. this Boss has his heartfelt reasons.. and, when Ivy’s approached with an offer she can’t refuse, Ethan’s manoeuvring and manipulation of players across his Mafia power board will eventually end in a brutal bloodbath.. and not everyone will be left standing.

This gifted author isn’t afraid to deliver painful punches, she knocks you sideways with unseen twists, her dark scenes are chilling, the drama is thrilling and she has you gripped to every single climactic word.. but it’s Joel Froomkin who brings it all to life with his endless acting abilities that’s probably spoiled me for all time. He switches genders, dialects, ages and nationalities with ease making each exciting chapter unstoppable. He was each and every character, he played their parts beautifully and the conversations flowed easily. Although mainly told from Ethan and Ivy’s POV’s, this suspensful story was told from multiple POV’s.. which brings in the major character and shows that, even if all of their moral compasses have been broken, they bleed they feel pain.. and they love deeply.

Worth a credit? Don’t hesitate - they are.

SPELLBINDING AND BREATHTAKING STORYTELLING

When I first saw this dark Mafia romance I thought it sounded good.. but now, after just finishing this the last book in this series, good is such a weak insignificant word to describe such an epic awesome listen. Great doesn’t cover it either.. because this dark, often violent, rollercoaster romance between two characters whose moral compasses had been broken long ago, was far better than great too. Their fast-paced journey together was nothing short of spectacular inspired storytelling, their rise to the top was bloody and brutal.. and I loved every cringe-worthy and sighworthy minute of it. Their highs, lows and everything in-between was twisted, breathtaking and beautiful, the pulse-pounding hold your breath action was riveting and the shocking twists, the gut-wrenching turns and the heart-stopping tragedies throughout this whole series left me in stunned awe of this author’s abilities. And Melody and Liam’s devotion and undying love for each other was writing at its very best.. because you can FEEL the passion between them, you can almost touch their chemistry and their sexy times nearly melted my headphones.

And they couldn’t of picked a more skilful narrator to bring it all to life because young and old, male and female, nationality and state.. this actor had it covered and delivered a faultless performance. Each and every scene effortlessly played out in my mind thanks to Joel Froomkin’s talented vocal abilities which brought me into each scene where I mentally clapped, jeered, swooned, swayed, stumbled and staggered. I drooled, booed, screamed, squirmed, boiled, bled and fumed. I fanned myself, bit my nails, laughed, cried and hung on to each chapter as it told of an Italian-Irish alliance that started out as an arranged marriage which lust and like-minds turned into soul-to-soul love that went through Hell, that took its blows and casualties.. and dished them out too.. and finally endedured it all because of love. The witty smooth dialogue, light-hearted humor, the edge-of-your-seat action, the nail-biting drama, the sweet and the savory, the dark and the light, the knocks and the hits and the pain and the pleasure may have been J. J. McAvoy’s words but Joel was the magician who gave them a heartbeat.

Worth a credit? This journey is the best I’ve ever listened to, it’s told mainly from the Melody and Liam’s POV’s who were strong alpha characters but there were multiple POV from family members too which brought everyone’s feelings to the forefront making it an all inclusive under one roof Callahan/Giovanni dynasty and the action-packed drama never stopped.. so oh boy YES it’s very creditworthy. Four books in the Ruthless People series.. four very different chapters in their lives.. four credits used.. and four times I mentally stood clapping this author’s brilliance, the narrator’s endless abilities and shouted “more.. more.. more..!”. And now I’m off to hear how their legacy continues in the spin-off series about their, now adult, children.

NOT A FEEL-GOOD ROMANCE

This should’ve been a sweet fell-good friends-to-lovers romance.. but instead I just felt oh so bad - especially for the hero Jake who’d been in love with Ava his best friend for as long as he could remember.. and that was a long long time. We learn he even declared his undying love and devotion the night Ava got engaged to someone else but this self-centred annoying heroine sent him packing. However, her childless marriage failed and an invitation to her ex’s new wife’s baby shower arrives which sets off Ava’s biological clock and longing.. so now she’s going to use Jake as a sperm donor to make her dreams come true. This starts off an emotional and heart-achingly difficult push ‘n pull for Jake as he’s gambling his heart to win Ava.. but all of Ava’s past relationship insecurities (which are many) are brought to life and Jake has to first demolish every one of her demons. But Ava isn’t the only one with demons of the past.. because a flesh and blood demon is going to stir-up trouble and cause waves just as their HEA horizon is in sight.

Worth a credit? No, not for me. It’s narrated well and Ava’s closed-off feelings towards Jake are eventually clarified.. but it’s too little too late as there were several times I just wanted to stop this annoying feel-bad dual POV story that unfortunately didn’t bring out the best of me. Because my heart broke again and again for Jake, my anger rose over their drawn-out undeclared feelings, my temper flared wishing someone would please knock some sense into them, I prayed for patience.. or that they’d just talk to each other.. and, as the predicted angst played out threatening their HEA ending, I cringed at the drama that followed. I usually like Lexi Ryan’s books.. but sadly I’ll be returning this one because it hurt too much.

WHAT A STORY.. WHAT AN AUTHOR.. & WHAT A RIDE

Wow Kristen Ashley has written a beautiful and emotional book with so many feels.. and the hours just flew by because I was lost in Keely and Hound’s intense love story.. in their world of loving each other despite the shadows surrounding it. Shadows of a past love so deep, true and tragic. Shadows of a brotherhood backlash and biker consequences. Shadows caused by fragilities and insecurities which shake their relationship for a while. And shadows caused by their unerring love and devotion to the boys and not wanting to hurt them.. the boys who grew up, grew wise and grew into cheeky Chaos Prospects. KA also seamlessly weaves into the framework of this story well-loved brothers, their feisty old ladies and the continuation of the Chaos story.. the good, the bad and the wolves at their door.

The first 35% was told in Hound’s POV - and it was heavy on the heat .. then in Keely’s POV as this strong heroine tells her possessive alpha biker a few home truths and just how badly he blew it. There were so many emotional tugs and heartachingly beautiful feels as Keely and Hound forged their future together, I loved the close relationship they both have with the boys and I was in awe of the clipped style of verbal sparring that KA does so well with this bossy yet loveable biker culture. And, wow, Kate Russell’s flawless narration deserves the highest of praises because young or old, man or woman, happy or sad and calm or crazy.. she delivered a solid gold performance.

Worth a credit? Erm.. well?.. let me think for a while.. Hell YES YES YES it’s worth a credit.

COUDA, SHOUDA AND WOUDA BEEN GOOD.. BUT

Well the moody cover first caught my attention and, when I read the Publisher’s Summary, I couldn’t wait to listen to this story which sounded so unique - and it was.. but it was told in such a flat monotonous monologue that the suspensful mystery, the pain, the longing and the heartache was just blah. Like other Audible members, I know how wonderful a listen can be if it’s being brought to life by a skilled narrator (or two) who make the book unforgettable.. and, on the flip side, how even the best books can flatline with the wrong narrator.. which, for me, is what happened with this book. Yes, I was intrigued by the mystery man and what answers would be revealed along the way.. but I kept thinking how x or y of the top female narrators would’ve been a much better choice.. how they would’ve acted it instead of just reading it and how they could’ve made it a 4 or 5 star listen.

Worth a credit? Hummmm that’s a hard one.. and well maybe I’m just spoiled or picky or something (shrug) I dunno. But I do know that if I’d spent x amount of months pondering, plotting, planning and penning a rollercoaster love story, I’d want it to be brought to life by the best out there, I’d want the narrator turn it into an exciting listen and I’d want the listener to FEEL every single one of the feels.. but sadly that wasn’t me. I also thought the heroine, who had been nothing more than a booty call for over a decade, should’ve grown a pair and kicked the hero to the curb years previously.

A MONUMENTAL & SLOW-BURN TO REDEMPTION

L.J.Shen is an auto download author for me.. and, this lyrical poetical book not only highlights why, but it also cements her place as one of my favorite author too. The quick-witted, snappy dialogue, witty one liners, thought provoking raw scenes, passion-filled pleasures, heartfelt sentiments, rich multi-layered characters, seismic chemistry, simmering sexual chemistry, the anti-hero you can’t help but fall in love with and the addictive storyline are all here.. but so is a lot more. More.. that had me holding my breath, more that had me reeling in disbelief, more that had me high fiving a heroine who claimed her life back, more that had me swooning a hero who started off as anything but one.. but redeemed himself beautifully. And more because their touching journey to forever was filled with dark pitfalls they climbed out from, unforeseen hurdles they cleared, mountain they moved and demons they slayed.

Twenty-five year old Bane is a self-professed asshole, a pot-smoking surfer, an extortionist, a liar, a con artist, a thief, a manwhore and a paid escort for anyone’s hire.. his moral compass is way waaay off and he’s unapologetically proud of it too. He is also a beautiful, sexy-as-sin, tattooed and pierced bad-boy alpha, a brash and blunt player, a business owner and an entrepreneur.. which is what leads him into Jesse’s life.. because, for the backing of $6 million dollars from her stepdad for Bane’s dream project, he is secretly contracted to bring a broken girl they call ‘the ghost’ back to life. However, that comes with one caveat.. do not, under any circumstances, have sex with her.. well that’s no problem she’s so not his type. He’s a carefree player, a warm-hearted womanizer, he doesn’t need or want complications and can get any woman he wants - so he takes the deal.. the deal that’s going to blow his well-ordered life apart, shatter his world and piece it all back together again.. and Bane has a broken, damaged, haunted, untouchable twenty year old to thank for that. Because it will eventually unlock her bitter dark memories, empower her inner strength, ignite her buried courage, enable her to face her past and she’ll become an avenging angel.. and slay all their demons. And Jesse’s heartbreaking tale?.. well that’s her emotional story to tell.

Worth a credit? Pheweee, where do I start with saying how much this is definitely worth a credit. Is it the writing skills of this well-loved author who has penned an unforgettable love story weighted down with so many emotional feels? Or is it the drama, angst, passion and pleasure that balanced and blended and brewed and baked over howevermany delicious hours? Perhaps it’s the awesome character growth that bends and binds and alters and remoulds them both? Or maybe it’s the dual POV narration which make these characters and their stories so captivating to listen to as I smiled and sighed and frowned and cursed and prayed along with them? Well, whatever the answer is, I’m grateful.. and long may this trio continue to mix and weave their magic. The last story in the Sinners of Saints series.. and each one can be a standalone.
