The stories in this collection are quintessential Alcott-embodying the homely values that so mark her work. Each story is a eloquent, but simple illustration of what Alcott saw as the true meaning of Christmas; giving joy to others.
If you are feeling a bit jaded this holiday season these stories are just the right medicine to restore your Christmas spirit.
Engaging look at the World War One
Mr. Meyer wrote a book that kept me hungry for more, not for the book, but for stories of the people and places he recounted. Have the French archives opened its records of the Mutiny of 1917 yet? What do the battlefields of Verdun and the Somme look like today? Meyer presented interesting backstories accompanying each chapter which allowed the reader to take a deeper look into the impetus behind the actions of the people of the time.
It was a clear, well written, accurate, and fascinating book.
I hope he writes another about World War 2.
