First, I don't see how this classifies as a Romance Novel. It's more like a suspense novel with a very small amount of general romance thrown in. Sure, there are relationships throughout the book, however the majority of those relationships don't really end happily ever after that we're aware of. The last relationship we learn of is rushed and without spoiling it, it just didn't seem right. The book was dark. There was a lot of death and cruelty. It's frustrating when Nora Roberts mixes her darker side in with Romance. If I wanted that kind of book, I would switch to her JD Robb series. But that's not what I'm looking for. I like my Romance books to be light and freeing. This one wasn't. The book ended with a promise that it was only going to get worse. That doesn't leave me thinking I have much to look forward to with the second one. Thankfully the next one doesn't come out for almost a year. I honestly don't know that I'll read it. I hate not finishing a series I start so I may just Spark Note that one and be done with it. Nora Roberts last book, Come Sundown, was so good. Yes, it had dark parts that I would have cared not to have heard, but at least the romantic story line was present throughout. And yes, there was a happily ever after. Unfortunately, this one fell way short of the mark. I realize some readers/listeners will and do love this book because it's different. I'm just not one of them.

I read the first book in this series on a whim and I only read this one because I like to finish what I start. But honestly I'm not certain I'll finish this series. This series is just not for me. Characters are unnecessarily stubborn, or dense, and the narration isn't the best. At times I couldn't tell who was talking.

Couldn't Put It Down
I absolutely loved this book. The only thing I was disappointed about was when it was over. I can't wait for the next one in the series to come out.
I love Janet Evanovich and I love this series but I think I'm just about burned out on it. The story itself just didn't work for me. I was a little irritated that Diesel was in it because we've all been left hanging for the last few years with his series. Don't get me wrong, I love Diesel, but I NEED him to be in his series with Lizzie so that series can keep going. Besides Diesel, I felt like Ranger had a very small part in this book. And the scenes seemed a bit rushed with him. The whole concept of this story was a bit far fetched, even for this series. I don't know, I guess I'm just over the whole thing.

Mediocre At Best
This book wasn't my favorite from Nora Roberts. I realize it's an older book but overall it just wasn't the best. I didn't like the dynamics of the relationship between the leads and I just didn't think the overall story was put together well. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
I absolutely loved this story. It's my first Susan Mallery book but it certainly won't be my last. I loved the variety of characters introduced and the hints of a backstory you got from each one. I found myself disappointed when the characters were disappointed and excited when the characters were excited. This story completely sucked me in. It took me less than 4 days to finish this book and I'll be moving on to the second one tonight. Definitely worth the read/listen.

Not The Best
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I guess I could say this was time well spent since the only thing I was doing at the time was driving.
Would you recommend Dakota Born to your friends? Why or why not?
No, I wouldn't. It's not the type of book I would ask them to read. It's long and drawn out. There are several story lines going on at one time and it's outdated. There seemed to be a physical spark between Gage and Lindsey but I couldn't understand how they had anything more than just that physical spark. They fought all the time, disagreed about everything, and overall were 2 very different people. The story line was flat and disappointing.
Would you be willing to try another one of Carly Robins’s performances?
I don't think so. I couldn't tell which character was supposed to be talking which made it very difficult to stay up with the story line.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No, I don't think I would.

Same Old Same Old
I found it hard to get in to this story. I love the characters but the story itself are just hard for me to appreciate. All the bad guys are always idiots. They either talk too much or do something stupid. Also, I had an issue with Wayan Baggis. He's a monk and yet he got hooked on modern commodities. It was disappointing.
I was skeptical about this book because sometimes Nora's longer, newer books seem to ramble on and I get bored. However, that was not the case here. I couldn't stop listening. It was one of her best works and I'd urge anyone to give it a try.

Simple Nora Roberts Novel
Any additional comments?
The story itself wasn't bad. I was able to figure out the ending nearly halfway through the book. My only complaint would be how fast everything happened with Laurel and Matthew. One minute they dislike each other. The next, he kisses her. Then they have 4 drinks and kiss. The next day, she loses her virginity. The next day, their engaged. I understand that during the year prior, Matthew had feelings for her and showed it by constantly picking on her and annoying her, but still, the way their relationship evolved was way too fast.
