Highly Overrated!

Can somebody please tell me why this audiobook gets such rave reviews? What am I missing? πŸ˜• I mean, the storyline is far from creative and gut wrenching, the characters are one dimensional, and the narration is pretty awful, including Kasandra Campbell’s performance of Jennifer. Also, the author goes into way too many descriptive details, boring the listener to tears! I expected so much more! 11 hours of my life wasted!!!πŸ˜’

Amazing Man!

This book is incredibly thought provoking! I was surprised by just how much one man was able to endure, without giving up and throwing in the towel. After hearing the story, I’m not sure how anyone could still support capital punishment. It’s inhumane and plain old cruel!!! Narration is great! Definitely buy this audiobook

Dull and Gave Up

Why in the world would I choose an audiobook based on Reese Witherspoon having it on her Hello Sunshine List??? Well, I did, and boy, am I sorry!!! It’s not like Ms. Witherspoon is an expert on good reads. She’s certainly not Oprah! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜’ anyway, I finally decided it was time to stop, and gave up at chapter 14, about 5 hours in. I am not sure what I was expecting, I just know that I was definitely expecting more, especially after hearing the sample excerpt. The author narrates the story, and actually did a wonderful job! It’s the story itself that needs help! I kept hoping for more. Don’t waste your time on this one!

Touching and Heartbreaking!

I seldom gush over a book, but it’s different this time!!! I love both the story and narration! It’s so well told, and pulls at your heart strings for sure. The story is complicated, with the focus on mental illness within a family, and how trying to protect and keep secrets can end up hurting everyone. As for the performances, each of them is terrific, but the male narrator really blew me away!!! He definitely sounded like an elderly man on his death bed, wanting to finally speak his truth before passing. I needed to grab for the Kleenex at least a few times.. Please make sure to listen. It will pleasantly surprise you!πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌf

Compelling But Too Far Fetched!

Good twists, though poorly executed! Self reflections were way too flowery. Some unrealistic reactions for sure! Silly epilogue. Best part about audiobook was the narration, especially liked her performance of Noel.

Surprise Ending

Solid story, with good character development, but not sure how I feel about the epilogue. Wish I could explain more clearly, without spoiling it. Best to say that I have mixed emotions regarding the outcome of their relationship. Performance by Sarah Zimmerman was also worth mentioning! She brought all of the characters to life, though she isn’t my favorite narrator...,;?

Shame On The Church!

I was not aware of what Canadian orphanages were like in the 1940s through 1950s, but I was really surprised to learn that the church played such a negative role in running them with physical and emotional abuse, not to mention how these orphanages became mental institutions where the children lived alongside adults with serious psychiatric issues, all for the sake of the church receiving more funding. πŸ™„ although this story is sad and disturbing, it is definitely worth the listen! Narration is also great!

the whole book. Will recommend to others for sure!!! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌA Stand Out Book

Historical fiction, with excellent character development! Story kept me glued and up all night. Audio is long, over 15 hours, but time well spent. Loved the strong women, and their determination to get to the truth. Enjoyed the back and forth of chapters, and the alternating between Eve and Charlie. Easy to keep track of time and place. Fantastic performance! Hard to believe that one person narrated

Excellent All Around!

Great premise, with good character development. You’ll like and dislike the main characters. They are flawed individuals. The twists and turns are abundant, and most are actually pretty surprising. Only thing I did not understand was the ending, to the point that the listener starts questioning almost everything! Apparently, I am not alone in my confusion with the ending. As for the performance, Alice Feeney did an amazing job of bringing each of the characters to life. It was easy to tell which person was speaking. Definitely try this audiobook!

Unique audiobook

Loved the parallel stories, and the blending of fact with fiction. At times, a bit confusing, but stick with it. Definitely worth the uncertainty and questioning of what some parts actually mean. The story all comes together, and will eventually make sense. Creative, with really good character development! Both performers were excellent, able to bring their characters to life. You’ll like and dislike Liza and Beth, and probably try and decide what you, the listener would do, if faced with the same situation. This audiobook is absolutely worth the credit!!!πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ
