great listen

This was the best book I've listened to in the past year. Yes, the early part of the book is a little slow, but it sets up the story in such detail that you can picture the setting vividly. It becomes more fast-paced as the story progresses. I didn't want the book to end, and I miss the adventures of Jacob on my daily commute.

Enjoyable light listen

I was looking for some historical fiction entertain me through a weekend of spring yard cleanup, and Trade Winds exceeded my expectations. It has a great story line, yet not so complicated that I missed something important if I got interruped. The plot is similar to other historical novels (female protagonist smarter than women are supposed to be ends up in an arranged marriage). The setting in Sweden is different than "the usual". The story sometimes seemed a little contrived, but that's par for the course in this genre. This is a great choice to escape from reality in a lively story with a happy ending!

Good Listen

I followed the financial crisis as it was occurring, but at the time I didn't have a good understanding of what was happening and why. Sorkin explains the causes of the crisis, the fall of Lehman and the political pressures clearly, in a way that appeals to someone without a background in the industry. The book is well written. In places it reads more like a thriller novel than a nonfiction book - I'm sure that more technical industry insiders won't appreciate this, but I certainly did!

Good book, poor recording

I selected this version of P&P because I've enjoyed listening to the narrator before. Nadia May has an excellent voice and makes the characters come alive. I loved her readings of Persuasion and Jane Eyre.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this recording. The chapter introductions are oddly timed - they start before the last word of the previous chapter. It makes the narration seem rushed and ruins the rhythm. There are also section breaks in odd places. I was surprised to hear the "reached the end of the part, but not the end of the audiobook" message about 50 minutes in to part one. Of course part one was not over at that point. Overall, the recording problems are distracting from the book itself - I would choose a different version.

Enjoyed this predictable romance

This is a good story. The plot is predictable at times, and I rolled my eyes once or twice, but overall a good listen. It moves at a good pace if you're multitasking - if you don't pay attention for a few minutes you don't miss anything critical. It's an entertaining historical romance.

Great listen

I really enjoyed this book. The narration is excellent, so it ends up being better than reading the paper copy would have been.
