DON'T ever buy abridged!

What disappointed you about The Witching Hour, Lasher, Taltos?

The stories don't make sense, they move to quickly and are just terrible overall. I absolutely love Anne Rice but this was awful.

What could Anne Rice have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing. It was abridged, I should have known better.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrators were fine.

Abridged Leaves a lot out

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Depends on the friend - if they enjoy simple quick reads then yes. Friends who like the details and a meatier book - no

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

First the books are out of order - Mayfair Witches is the first book. Second I'm currently reading the kindle version of the Mayfair Witches and the abridged parts leave out way too much for my comfort. I feel like it changes the story a bit too much, while you get the general gist you're missing a lot of the good stuff - it the movies version

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Yes the narrators did well but I thought the guy in abridged parts was little dull

?

Would you try another book from Anne Rice and/or the narrators?

Why on earth is Lasher the first story in this collection? The Witching Hour should be the first story, Lasher is a followup to the Witching Hour. I fail to understand why the order was chosen.

DO NOT BUY!!!

The Mayfair Chronicles are exciting and terrifying because of the DETAILS. This crappy abridgment skips everything that makes the stories wonderful and instead gives you the bare bones of the outline. Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad product.

Beware, It's an abridged version!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

There may be a market for abridged books, but I personally do not get the appeal.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I disliked all the characters, not sure if it is because of the narration or the loss in characterization due to the abridgement, but I could not relate to them or understand their motivations half the time.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I absolutly hated the narrations, in my opinion they get in the way of the good writing and misrepresent the emotion I imagine the characters are having way too many times. The lady narrator in the first story is not as bad, but here too the general tone of the narrating feels wrong to me. I wonder if Anne Rice would like it.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

One can glimpse the powerful writing style and the interesting story that is behind this unfortunate version.

Any additional comments?

I did not realize these were abridged versions when I bought the collection, and have been wondering how Anne Rice could have written a book like this one all the time I have been listening LOL I had been forcing myself to listen to it until the end but now I've realized it is abridged there's no point for me in continuing.
