The Author John O Dwyer was born in 1953 in Co Tipperary, one of a family of 6. He was reared on a farm in rural Ireland. He went to school in Lackamore NS and then received his Secondary education in Newport Vocational School and St Mary's Secondary. He joined the Cadets and served for one year, prior to joining Sligo County Council in 1972. He worked in Sligo. Leitrim and again Sligo Local Authorities until his retirement as a Senior Executive Officer in 2010. He married Teresa and they had 4 children, Keith, Shane, Barry and Gavin. He remarried Susanne in 2009 and went to live in Derry from 2010, on retirement. In Derry he authored "Willie-My fight to be Irish" and commenced writing published works; "I am no sheep" and "No more heroes 1916-2016" He achieved the honour in 1995 of being selected as "Sligo Person of the Year" for his work in promoting Sligo 750 celebrations. He formed with colleagues the Housing Institute of Ireland and became it's first President. A keen sportsman, he played club and Inter County winning County titles in Sligo and Leitrim. He also served on County Boards in both Counties. he served his community as Director of Sligo Credit Union, Sligo Rovers FC, Sligo Regional Sports Centre Ltd and while in Derry as Director of Peace & Reconciliation.
