I'm a former preacher's daughter who was born in Texas but grew up in Oklahoma. Growing up in the country with my younger brother was a precious gift from my parents for which I will be forever thankful. They encouraged us to get outside and experience life in the dirt with our own hands rather than relying on technology to see the world. Thankfully, technology was fairly non-existent in our neck of the woods back in the 1970s and 1980s. They also had us in church every time the doors were open, and the foundation of my childhood has shaped my outlook on life and sustained me through all the trials and tribulations to date. Life ain't worth living without Jesus. I was a bookworm from the time my mama started reading to me as a baby, and so, I majored in English because I couldn't imagine doing anything else but reading and writing. Are you shocked I said "ain't" above? Don't be. You can take the girl out of the country, but you'll never take the country out of the girl, but I digress. After jobs as a teller, administrative assistant, and customer service representative, I ended up in the accounting department of a bank and was talked into getting my graduate degree in accounting. Bookworm turned number cruncher? Yep. That's me. See, even though I always loved books, I also loved numbers and was on the math team in school. While I have a creative side, I'm also very logical and like nice, definitive answers and balanced equations. I can think outside the box when I have to do so, but I rather like it inside that box. I've never been married and don't have any kids. I'm not against either one, but I'm not actively seeking them out either. I guess you could say that I'm waiting on God to send the man He has chosen for me if that's His will. I do have a dog, Brandi, and she is the joy of my life. She's half Pomeranian and half miniature short-haired dachshund. She is the cutest thing you've ever seen. Between work, writing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, enjoying essential oils, playing and singing with the Lone Star Cowboy Church band, and spending time with family, friends, and Brandi, I stay quite busy and happy. For some reason, even in this 21st century, it's hard for folks to believe you can be happy without being married or having kids. Believe me, I have been endlessly questioned about this side of my life by family, friends, and even total strangers. In 2006, I was so fed up with the aggravation of it all that my book, Declaring Spinsterhood, was the result. It was my tongue-in-cheek way of turning the mirror back on them. It's my first novel, but not the first attempt, and I certainly hope it's not the last. It has been an exciting experience from the very first time I sat before my laptop on November 1, 2006 and typed the opening words, "It was the wedding of her dreams." My favorite authors are Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Daphne DuMaurier, L.M. Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Jean Plaidy, Janet Evanovich, and I better stop here, or I'm going to run out of room.
