James E. Hite has taught political science for Portland State University for over fourteen years and he also teaches political science for Clackamas Community College and Mt. Hood Community College. Hite's area of academic focus is the American executive. In addition to writing Second Best: The Rise of the American Vice Presidency, Hite is currently working on a manuscript on President Franklin Pierce and he is also revising and copy editing a novel he completed. In addition to writing and teaching, Hite is an avid runner and surfer and divides his time between Portland and his home on the Oregon coast.
