I was born in New York, NY and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC. I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a B.A in Film Studies. I spent my late twenties and early thirties working amongst some of the nations most infamous gamblers and lottery winners. My folks were so proud. I left the finance world in early 2006 and began writing full time. My first book, the critically acclaimed memoir, Money for Nothing: One Man's Journey Through the Dark Side of Lottery Millions (Collins) was released in September, 2007. In 2007, Money for Nothing was featured on This American Life with Ira Glass. I have also written for The New York Times, Washingtonian Magazine, and The Huffington Post where I write about business, pop-culture, media, politics, and gambling. I live in Bethesda, Maryland, with my wife and two daughters in a house with a well-used but drafty kitchen.
