Dr. Jesse Sage Haggard is a third-generation, functional medicine doctor trained in evolutionary biology, pharmacology, chiropractic biophysics and naturopathic medicine. He serves as the community outreach director for the non-profit, Low Carb Diabetes Association at www.lowcarbdiabetes.org. Also, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and had a long history of helping people transform into fit and strong minds and bodies through intense, boot camp-like training. That was until he had an unexpected and incredible personal experience with less sitting and more slow walking. Replacing his sitting job with a walking job transformed his body, endurance, strength and mind more than resistance training ever did. For example, his leg-press one repetition maximum increased 115 lb. in eight weeks. The personal results he achieved from just adding lots of walking caused him to take a different approach with his patients: to inspire people to make small changes to their health that have the potential to accumulate into huge health improvements, long-term. Dr. Haggard chose challenges that are achievable for most people, yet still provide positive new health concepts and experiences. Although each specific challenge may not result in an instant and dramatic health change, they provide people with a high chance of successful small wins. These types of habits that can produce chain reactions are commonly referred to as keystone habits. As people achieve and accumulate small wins with keystone habits, they will most likely see other healthy habits flourish. They can produce a chain reaction of healthy habits, just like making your bed each morning can, because you get in the habit of winning. Success begets success. Understanding the reasons for healthy habits can support beneficial, long-term behaviors to persist. So rather than start with a rigid and intense exercise, nutrition and detoxification program, he now advocates milder approach. Moving more each week. Eating one healthy meal a day. Performing one body cleansing action every week. This is the strategy behind the Nudge Your Health books and program. It meets people where they are currently at and gently or gradually nudges them towards better health. Those who can understand and adopt most of the keystone habits in the Nudge Your Health Programs are referred to as Nudge Healthy (NH). With the Nudge Your Health program, everybody can win to be healthier. www.NudgeYourHealth.com
