In 1967, David Berner created the X-Kalay Foundation, Canada's first residential treatment centre for addicts, alcoholics and others. The program continues today in Manitoba as the Behavioral Health Foundation. David is also a broadcaster, actor and writer. He has hosted radio and television public affairs programs In Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa. He has acted in over 50 films and played major roles on stages across Canada from Vancouver to St. John's, Newfoundland, and as far afield as Venice, Italy. He has been a Vancouver Province newspaper columnist and written for many magazines and on-line journals. Today, David runs therapy groups with addicts and alcoholics at the Orchard Recovery Centre on Bowen Island, B.C., consults with other recovery and prevention programs and is the Executive Director of the Drug Prevention Network of Canada.
