Carey Winfrey’s career in journalism spanned nearly half a century—in newspapers, television and magazines—as a reporter (The New York Times), TV producer (PBL, HK-TVB, WNET/13, CBS) and magazine writer and editor (Time, People). He was the founding editor of Memories magazine and editor-in-chief of Cuisine, American Health and Smithsonian, from which he retired in 2011 after ten years at its helm. In retirement, or self-unemployment as he prefers to call it, he made a documentary film about Key West’s literary heritage (“Writers on Bicycles”) and co-wrote, with John Leslie, a political thriller (Hail to the Chief).
