Publisher's summary

"A few short months before, I'd juggled three men in my life, and then suddenly there were none. Today, one was staging a comeback, and I wasn't sure what to do about that. In the meantime I was free to date whoever I wanted. Even a ranking member of the mafia as part of a part-time job."

Izzy McNeil is hot on the trail of one of Chicago's most notorious gangsters. Not that he realizes the crimson-tressed enchantress, a self-proclaimed "lapsed lawyer", is moonlighting as a private investigator. But when an unexpected run-in trashes Izzy's cover, she's swept into an evil underworld where she is definitely not safe.

That is until Izzy receives help from an unlikely source: the ultimate guardian angel. And the last person she ever dreamed she'd see again. Now Izzy is racing from Chicago to Rome, all the while battling personal demons, Mafiosi killers, and red hot emergency desires.

Listen now to author Laura Caldwell and narrator Nancy Liem discuss how the three Izzy McNeil mysteries - Red Hot Lies, Red Blooded Murder, and Red, White & Dead - came together in the Audible studios.

Izzy should die

The main character Izzy is so annoying I wanted her to die slowly. I don’t like it characters question everything and can’t figure out what they want in life. It makes me focus more on my hate form rather the story line. She constantly said why, and, how, as if it wasn’t her f-ing fault to start with. She wanted to find her father, she was scared of her father, she loved her father, she blamed him for everything and she was the one that went out with a mob guy. Dumb bitch. And the fact that she was mad at Sam for going back to his ex when she couldn’t make up her stupid mind and she was sleeping around with everyone willing to.

LIked the plot, but.....

I listened to the trilogy in succession, and enjoyed the stories, however, I didn't enjoy the narrator. I couldn't connect with her as the main character. I've read and listened to several "chick lit thrillers" and have enjoyed all the narrators, except this one. I don't think she really captured the character well; she actually made me end up disliking Izzy. I also did not like the way the author had the narration skip in the books themselves. The story would skip from Izzy as the narrator in first person, to a third person narrator. Other than that, the stories themselves were fun reads.

Very unrealistic

I know this is fiction, but... The plot was completely ridiculous! I enjoyed her other books and the narrator is good.

Can't believe I bought another one!

After the last one, I swore I was never going to buy another one in this series and by this reader, and in a moment of utter weakness, not to mention, no books and nothing good on the horizon, I did. Don't you. Izzy is just too stupid to live, and frankly, the reader makes everything sound like a disaster, from the littlest thing to the biggest, like OH MY GOSH, I HAVE A HANGNAIL, I AM GOING TO ROT AWAY NOW.
