Publisher's summary

From the blockbuster New York Times bestselling author of Look Again comes a novel that makes you question the nature of evil: is it born in us or is it bred?

Bennie Rosato looks exactly like her identical twin, Alice Connolly, but the darkness in Alice's soul makes them two very different women. Or at least that's what Bennie believes, until she finds herself buried alive at the hands of her twin.

Meanwhile, Alice takes over Bennie's life, impersonating her at work and even seducing her boyfriend in order to escape the deadly mess she has made of her own life. But Alice underestimates Bennie and the evil she has unleashed in her twin's psyche, as well as Bennie's determination to stay alive long enough to exact revenge.

Bennie must face the twisted truth that she is more like her sister Alice than she could have ever imagined, and by the novel's shocking conclusion, Bennie finds herself engaged in a war she cannot win—with herself.

Critic reviews

“Van Dyck moves smoothly between the viewpoints of the opposing siblings, juggles the quick pacing of their contest of wit and wills, and emphasizes the story's wry humor.” —AudioFile

“Reader Jennifer Van Dyck makes Alice come alive in all her nastiness, and we're glad the plot leaves room for a sequel.” —Winston Salem Journal

Mower candy

Listened while while cutting grass.
Good story and plot. Held interest over multiple mowing sessions without loosing plot line.

kept my interest

Well woven story with twists and turns that kept my interest. I expected Alice's cover to be blown when she said "do it quick" leaving the "ly" off her adverb. Benni would not make that grammatical error.

Good suspense

Lisa Scottoline knows how to make you care about what happens to her main character. It's a good book for listening. I listen on my car ride to work and it made the time pass quickly. The narrator was great.

Not her best Rosatto boork..

I usually love Lisa Scottoline's books, especially those with Bennie Rosatto's law firm.. However, this book failed to entice me..It was choppy in places, and it really didn't meet her normal standard. It was also very short in length in comparison to her other books. I have been a fan of hers since I found audiobooks and with her print books before finding the joy of audiobooks. I hope her next publication in April turns out to be a much better listen. I would not say don't buy this book, just be ready for it not to be the best Scottoline book you ever listened to or read. It just lacks something..

Pins and Needles!

Could not stop listening once we started story. All the series was good, but this tops the list. If we could give ten stars we would!

Audio skips and gets stuck, but the book and performance are fantastic!!

I LOVE this author and series!! I love the way this narrator performs as well. It drives me crazy when narrators don't know how to pronounce things like, "forte." No problems like that here!

Great Story

The Risato and DiNunzzio Novels are always fun to listen. The recording wasn’t fully available on my audible. In 2 or 3 sequences i couldn’t hear anything even though the seconds were ticking by.
